The really terrible thing at the moment is that there is no sign of any improvement. In fact despite all the stupidly optimistic guff peddled by the Brexit lot, all the indicators are for things to get much worse. I am not optimistic, even in the long run. Sorry Sue!

At least 48% of us want cheering up now. In fact a lot more than 48% because many people who voted Leave only did it to make a protest and didn't think it would really happen, they preferred to Remain. Perhaps the Remain campaign should have used more of those graphics instead of rejecting them...for instance the one that showed a picture of a hand grenade and said "Once you've pulled the pin out you can't put it back."

At times like this I concentrate on my hobbies and let the world go on by...

Yes I think so Tiz, lots of sewing being done and an imminent summer in rural France where they really are not interested in our politics or even theirs

Well I had a feeling this would be a short topic!

One cheerful note (for home-owners, but not home-buyers) is that the Daily Express front page headline this morning tells us: `EU exit boosts house prices' and it goes on to report a 16% rise. Well, there we are then, the referendum is a wonderful boost to the UK after all....Or is it? The real story is that the rise in prices was before the referendum result due to people wanting to make a purchase before the uncertain outcome could affect them.

Well up to the usual Daily Express standards then. Best to ignore everything they say.

I stumbled across a Casio calculator today, that I'd forgotten about. Its USP is that it has a Euro / Pound converter function. You have to set up the current rate of exchange. I set it when I bought it - can't remember exactly when - probably in the last three or four years.

I tried it, and guess what - I had set the rate at 1.195 euro for a pound. Today's rate after the dramatic post Brexit crash of sterling is 1.19 euro / pound.

Crisis - what crisis?

Well, you'll be able to use it now without having to go to the trouble of re-setting the rate. It reminds me of that OG member who was pleased for 6 months of the year when his car clock showed the right time and depressed for the other 6 months when it didn't.

I'd have you know Tiz, that the clock in my car is correct for 7 months of the year as I leave it on British Summer Time. I'm happy the year round due, 1) to the time saving in not having to alter it twice a year and, 2) because I'm not driving to Greenwich MEAN time in winter...

I've spent almost five days with a bunch of lively intelligent 19 and twenty year old students. I know they were not a representative sample but they cheered me up no end. Polite, punctual and very funny.....

David, you've outed yourself as another who doesn't adjust his car clock but it wasn't you I was thinking of, it was Bradders if you remember him. Lived in Wadebridge and played blues music.

Bradders is still alive and well. He popped up as a friend when I joined facebook.....
