I think that's what comes of updating `breaking news' rather than re-writing it. They just keep adding bits and in the end it doesn't make sense.

This gave me a surprise until I saw the bit about youngsters being used to viewing YouTube videos with subtitles. Another reason might be that TV (and radio) sound has deteriorated over recent years, then got even worse during the pandemic due to so much broadcasting of WhatsApp recordings.

Sky news are saying

The taxi driver who escaped the car explosion outside Liverpool Women's Hospital has been named as David Perry - with the prime minister saying it appears the cabbie acted with "incredible presence of mind and bravery". It is understood Mr Perry has been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home.

That doesn't seem to fit with previous reports, which implied he was very gravely injured. I'm pleased to hear it of course, but I don't think he should have been named at this stage.

I'd say forget most of what you've read in the press over the last 24 hours and watch the actual event. In the quest to be first a lot of it has been made up. The driver most certainly didn't realise he had a bomber his cab, so he jumped out and locked him in - as was widely reported. . He was in the car when the device exploded, and how he survived is a miracle.

To someone who was refused help once, by two Fire Brigades to come to the assistance of a person - this is unbelievable.

Eyewitnesses said there were at least three fire engines in attendance as well as South Wales Police.

I noted the same thing when I saw the video David and also heard that his fare had asked to be taken to The Liverpool Women's Hospital. This detracts from the early reports that he had noted something wrong and had the presence of mind to divert to the hospital. I wonder which version PM Johnson had heard when he went public with his praise.

Not sure if heard on the radio equates to seen in the news or can be classed as media 'or Banks etc.
This mornings BBC radio news stating that the inflation rate has risen to 4.2% for October. This is not a surprise and November will see another rise. What annoyed me was the presenter saying that inflation was a good thing because it showed that the economy was growing. This is typical fuzzy thinking and misleading. Inflation shows that prices are increasing and may have nothing to do with wages / employment where larger wages drive up demand and prices rise to take advantage of the demand the BofE usually steps in at this point to raise interest rates. I expect better from the BBC and not make glib comments to ameliorate what could spell disaster for those at the bottom of the food chain.

Rant taken up! I heard the same thing Ken and noted that the man also said hat the BofE had forecast 5% going into the New Year. I agree with you, they should put their brain in gear before speaking. What we need from the BBC is news, not an amateur economist's opinion.
Did you also note that Priti 'Orrible has said that the Liverpool bombing is due to a failed immigration regime? Why do I suspect she means even thinking about offering asylum? Her cure would be to send them all to a remote island as soon as they arrive and 'process' them there.

I've not seen the exact text but there appears to be two big loopholes
1). They are allowed a RESONABLE amount of time doing other work. Most cases that revolve round the word reasonable fail because reasonable cannot ever be exactly defined.
2). They cannot be seen to be working to influence POLITICAL outcomes. Politics, voting etc are not involve in commercial deal making.

On the surface it looks like business as usual.

Todays BBC radio news... Starts with resignation of some obscure (obscure to me ) cricketer resigning followed by two other bits of nonsense that are typical Mirror or Express fodder. In fourth place came the revelation that our government was totally unprepared for the Covid-19 pandemic...Talk about burying bad news. I suppose that killing over 140,000 people through incompetence isn't really worth mentioning.

Must find a quiet dark room to recover in.

I agree with you Ken. The political situation is so dire I have started watching the 18:00 BBC news on the TV. Mostly because I can't believe what's happening. Johnson is said to be looking depressed. I doubt it, he isn't perceptive enough to think outside his own box which is focussed solely on the greatest benefit for himself and his ilk.

I've just been listening to a woman who was taken into a Catholic 'home for fallen women' and her baby was taken off her at 12 weeks. When he got older he was told his mother was a heavy drinker which was a lie. The lady was reunited with him when he was 40 years old. The Catholic nuns who run the home say that none of what she says is true. None of the girls were verbally abused or punished in any way.
