Who would have thought we would need a topic for such a thing.
We are doomed

We have a bit of a Baldrick type plan to keep us out of mischief. Last week we went to B&Q and bought gloss and emulsion to redecorate our front room. White gloss for the border coving and room centre rose and two different emulsions for walls and ceiling. We will follow it with cleaning the carpet while all the stuff is out. Isolated walks around the paths and lanes will be interspersed to clear the lungs. Should keep us busy for a while. Freezer and carousel is well stocked, (without any panic buying) so I reckon we are good for a couple of months if push came to shove. We can certainly cover a fortnight if we succumb to the virus.

Our kids are in a different ball park which I will relate when I have a bit more info, jut to say, Carla and Jack both work in school as does Jack's girlfriend Jemma, Carla's husband Anthony is self employed.

I saw suggestions this morning of how to use `nudge theory' methods to avoid getting infected. One was to help us stop touching our face too much. It recommended that families start to shout `Face!' whenever one of them touches their face!

It's amazing how many times I touch my face, and don't notice until I've done it, it's a habit I shall have to try to get out of.
On the topic subject I would think there are lots of people who have either got it or have had it without knowing about it, other than thinking they've got a bit of cough and cold. The nice weather is a help, makes people feel better, and it's got to be doing something good for the environment with all this travel restricted.

The Covid-19 Dashboard for my county, Somerset, shows 7 confirmed cases as of 18th March. It doesn't tell me how many people in the county have been tested or how many are infected and not tested, therefore the information is of little use. There might be 7 infected or 7000. Is there any better information available to show how many people might already be infected in this county?

As from 9pm Friday 20 March ‘20 non residents and non- Australian citizens, are not allowed in to Australia. We are closed.

Gosh that felt weird writing that.

London has become UK's hot spot for the virus, what are we going to do to slow the transmission down? I know, we will close the schools in Barlick that should do the trick.

It would be interesting to know how many people have had it and recovered, the media only report the negative. A headline yesterday was 'youngest in UK dies of coronavirus', a sad outcome but the small print stated he had MND. I'd be horrified to see the headlines if someone without an underlying condition dies...

I had a call from our secretary of the ILP Land Society, (Carol) this morning. She was canvassing all committee members regarding whether we should close Clarion House under the present situation. The majority are in favour of this as a lot of our visitors although many as fit as a fiddle would be in the "at risk group". Same goes for the volunteer brewing teams, they are also at risk serving the visitors. So, consensus is that we will close for the duration. Notices will go up on our website and other social media channels and Carol is setting about contacting all our brewing up teams from the rota. In the past, in times of duress Clarion House has served as a soup kitchen but that is an entirely different matter to the situation that we are facing at the moment.

Both of our kids Carla and Jack work in Primary Education as does Jack's girlfriend Jemma. Carla and Jemma are both teachers and Jack works in an IT and technical support role in Primary Schools.

Carla's roles at Glusburn Primary School makes her a key worker so her school will provide a role supporting children who's parents are also key role workers. Carla's children Isla and Finlay with a mum who is a key worker will be catered for at their own Primary School in Silsden. Carla has been in planning meetings at school this week to see how it is all going to work. She has been asked today to work over the Easter Holiday. It may create a bit of a child care problem with Isla and Fin as the normal pre and after school clubs they attend to allow mum and dad to work are closed. We as grandparents cannot step up here as the recommendation is that children should not go to grandparents.

Jack normally travels between schools around West Yorkshire some in North Yorkshire and over the border into Lancashire. He has been to six today, some already closed others in the main will be by tomorrow. There may be some work back at base or still a support role in some of the key worker schools that will remain open.

Not sure about Jemma yet, don't know if she has a key role or will be asked to work by her school.

The schools that remain open will not be delivering the curriculum a such as they will have a diverse age range to cater for. Some schools will also provide support for some disadvantaged children.

One good thing for the offspring is that they are all salaried so they should not have any immediate money worries. Bank of mum and dad is empty anyway, compounded with Sally having been robbed of her pension.

I haven't got it yet.....

Had to pop out to the chemist for hubby’s script. Whilst waiting for it to be filled, we went next door to the supermarket just to see how stocks were going. We had planned to do our weekly shop tomorrow in early morning hour dedicated to older people and those with disabilities. Upshot is we won’t be going shopping tomorrow because there is nothing much at all left on shelves!
No paper products of any kind ( even paper serviettes all gone!). No bottled water, no juices, no pasta or packet pasta, no soups ( even the cheapest plain brand ones are gone). No frozen veg. Very little frozen anything except for ice cream. No cracker biscuits. No cleaning liquids. No dishwashing liquid. No kitchen sponges. No wet wipes or sanitiser...
A lot of stressed people about.
( this really is “unreal” isn’t it.)
I have to say I was quite shocked by it all.

I went into the local KFC yesterday and sat down waiting for my meal.

A lady 2 tables away from me shouted "Put your mask on"

"Why? Am I likely to get infected with Covid in here?" I said.

"No" she replied "because you're bloody ugly."

Aust. Truck curfews are to be lifted to allow 24hr Supermarket deliveries in bid to stop bulk buying.
Government has overridden local council rules that didn’t allow deliveries thru the night hours because of the noise in residential areas.
Don’t get excited, it’s NSW only at the moment.

There is something more going on here though I think. Why is every country having the same problems with stocks? It can’t all be about trucks and noise regulations. Surely.
I know people with a lot of money are panic buying. Most of what they are buying, they won’t eat. It will end up in the dump in 6 months time. We need to think ahead and recollect these food packets etc for food banks for the less fortunate. The crime will be that food you won’t eat will end up in the dump, after the crime of stock piling in the first place.
I was walking behind a young couple today and I heard her say to him “ we will just get dinner every night from the Bakery”.
( lazy “b”...make some Soup.)
I think us “oldies” can live better than the young in these times...
( and you should have seen the size of her backside...shaped like an armchair!)

I was listening to a psychiatrist talking yesterday and she said it’s not that people are being greedy, it’s that they are trying to hold onto some sort of control of their lives, during this one time in one hundred year event. They feel that everything around them is crumbling away and their food supply is at least something that they can try to control.

But Cathy, people are stocking up on foods they will never eat. There is no “off” switch.
I made Soup today from my end of the week stuff. They are still throwing good food away!
( I now have a three night batch of Soup and one lot has gone in the freezer)
I feel like wringing necks...

We spoke to one old lady at the supermarket who was obviously struggling just to be there and holding heavily to her trolley for support. She says that she is in best shape of her three neighbours, (!) so has been shopping 4 days this week trying to get stuff for them that are worse off. She calls in 3 times a day to see if there are new stocks.
All she had in her trolley today was dog food, a loaf of bread, a carton of milk.
I wanted to cuddle the poor lady...

There must be an end to it, freezers must be filling up. (I wonder how many people have bought a chest freezer and put it in the garage? Don't laugh, some will go that far!)
As you both say, there's going to be a lot of wasted food.

There are a number of small shops around here starting to offer a delivery service of fresh produce so the food must be out there at the moment. Pubs and cafes setting up to do takeaway and delivery.

Well I have a chest freezer, but have had it about 4 years.
And YES we are fine. As you know I have always made Soup and put meals by. ( I reckon we will be fine for 3 weeks...but then our town fills up with Easter tourists, nailed to 2 weeks school holidays. So I have to look ahead and think of protecting hubby who has multiple health issues and is at risk.) so it will be me ducking out briefly for stocks or medication.
I will take care of neighbours too and have already told them...
