Whitney Houston has been found dead. Aged 48 she had the lot and seemed to be set for a long career. Over the last few years she has gad a troubled life. So sorry to hear this, she was one of those rare singers whose voice was a force of nature.

What a shame. I was listening to one of her songs yesterday...I thought she was wonderful.
There is no greater force than self destruction, is there?

They haven't as yet said how she died, so I won't jump to conclusions, but what a shame for such a great talent to die so young.
There was a rumour that she might have been performing at the Grammys (this Sunday i think).

Cath and Maz, the LA police say that they understand she was in town for the Grammies. The suspicion must be that her death is connected with her recent lifestyle. Such a shame...

Real shame but her life, career and talent was on a downwards spiral. Last time I saw her live on TV she was atrocious. RIP Whitney. Nolic

Perhaps the body just naturally gave up after all she had put it through. It happens. ( though it looks as if she overdid it the night before and possibly carried on in party mode)

My favourite song was 'The Greatest Love Of All'. Seems to connect to some sad times in my life when I felt the only person I could rely on was myself...though she sang many wonderful songs. And BOY could she belt them out. Fantastic.

I like the way her husband (ex?) went on stage at the Grammy's just 4hrs after she was found dead... NOT!

I reckon she couldn't face going into an arena like that where she used to belong and knowing just how successful she used to be and how she would be judged today. ??

Yes very sad to hear of the death of Whitney Houston aged 48. She had such a powerful voice and had sold millions of records all over the world. But over the last few years she had suffered through ill health like a number of other pop stars with the dreaded drugs and alcahol. Very, very sad.

And her daughter rushed to hospital less than 24 hours later...grief reaction?

That is both my childhood dreams now, Davy Jones and Jack Wild. It takes a woman of a certain age I suppose....

Oh dear, another one of the best gone. They say he was still working right up to a couple of days ago. He had been very popular for many years working in musical stage shows. He was a young heart-throb of mine too. RIP Davy Jones

I have been asked by my Sister in Law, Liz Borman, to post this here as the local paper will not carry this until next friday. Her Husband Patrick Borman passed peacefully away just after seven o clock this morning. Born at Barrowford, Patrick had lived in Barlick since about 1960, for 45 years he worked at Rolls Royce and was a founder member of the gym club there. A keen athlete, Patrick, and his Wife Liz ran the youth club at Earby for many years, both were members of the Barlick Horticultural society. He had been ill for for about five years and more recently had been confined to bed. I understand that the funeral will take place in the middle of next week and the service will be held at St Josephs Catholic Church, I will post more accurate details later.

Yes, I too was saddened to hear of the death of Davy Jones of The Monkees. I remember watching him with his fellow band members at Saturday morning matinees at the ABC cinema in Rochdale. I got to know all their records at the end of the 1960s. Hey hey with the Monkees and Daydream believer etc. RIP Davy Jones.

I get the impression from the reports that the policeman wasn't necessarily getting 100% support from the force. Time will tell but why would this not surprise me.

I posted last week about the death of Patrick Borman, the funeral details are as follows: A funeral Service will be held at St, Josephs RC Church at 1300 on Thursday the 8th of March followed by a Family Burial at Ghyll Cemetery. Following this will be a celebration of Patrick's life at the Rolls Royce Welfare Centre to which all who knew him will be made welcome. When I posted a few brief details about Patrick I omitted to mention that along with his wife Liz, they "fostered" many children one of whom later married a family member. Patrick had been ill for some time and in the summer of last year spent three weeks in Pendleside Hospice, his condition on returning home was greatly improved and the hospice took over his care at home, there is little doubt that this extended Patricks life, Anyone wishing to make a donation to the hospice may do so through Helliwells Funeral Service at Bracewell House Barnoldswick.

I heard on the radio this evening that the Welsh actor Philip Madoc has died aged 77. He was famous as the u-boat commander in one of the episodes of Dad's Army. The famous part where he asks "what is your name" to which Capt Mainwaring replys "Don't tell him, Pike". I never tire of seeing that episode. The actress Ruth Madoc (Hi de Hi) was his wife.
