Looks wonderful, I would love to be able to do the same thing. Enjoy it while you can!

I've started the build of the engine because until I have that done I can't easily address the eccentric and valve timing. Slow careful work fine tuning all the studs and fastenings, putting gaskets in and making sure that everything is properly finished as this work is the final build.

I shall be in the shed enjoying a careful build of the engine. All the studs being checked and seated properly, gaskets installed and nothing being allowed to slip through. Then after second sleep Susan comes to give me a pedicure. Such luxury! She tells me she enjoys doing it, she's certainly good at it!

The picture tells the story. I have spent the morning fitting the engine. The flywheel and it's bearings, the crosshead and slide, the cylinder piston and rod and its gland are all finally fitted and don't need touching again. All the studs cut back to nut level.
The valve chest is a temporary fit, I'm not sure where I go from here, I fancy it will be the eccentric and rod then the final fit of the valve chest and lid. That's for tomorrow.

Morning

Another late sleep but mainly because we were talking with Wendy and Keith till after midnight. Late nights don’t suit me, I didn’t sleep well , but Wendy and Keith are night owls. WE had a lovely afternoon with Mike and Janet, a long late lunch followed by a short 2.5 mile walk tracing the walking and camp site of Mikes youth!

Probably Coniston today, plans to be confirmed at breakfast . Have a good day

Not sure about electric, I wouldn’t want to take that apart. I can cope with mechanical. Thanks for the hint I shall name you as my chief machine scout 😊

Things are getting serious on the Vienna Clock front. Played about for numerous hours with some of the easier bits and actually got it to run on the bench but a total failure when it was back in its case. Now its the nuclear option with all its innards out. The escapement mechanism is badly worn and the nylon chord for the weights needs replacing so until I get some 1mm dia nylon fishing line its marching time. :geek:

You're a better man than I am Gunga Din! I wouldn't dare strip mine down and my clock man Bert Huppach is dead.....Good luck with it!
Quietly forward in the shed with the No 9. No rush. Bookie watch looks to be on the cards, we have another decent forecast.

Yesterday we had our first session in the history society archive room since the start of lockdown. Lots of tidying up to do!
I think I'll get Col to take me down to Castle Road when he goes shopping this morning and I'll walk home via Noyna and Kelbrook. I don't want to waste this pleasant weather!

Morning

We intend an early start this morning as we want to drive down to Kendal and visit an art supplies shop, there. Mike recommended it and I badly need some watercolour paper. We shall come back for lunch then plan our last afternoon. The forecast is dry, cloudy, with some sun but showers by 5.00 pm

We went to Keswick yesterday, it was rather dull with mist covering the tops of the mountains , very atmospheric. Compared with previous days my photos look almost black and white. At one pont I had three little robins walking round my feet. They were not the least bit frightened, remaining there long enough for me to take my phone out of my pocket and take a photo. Wendy and Keith left for home about 4.30 pm . It was a very pleasant social two days. How nice to be able to make a meal for someone and sit around a table chatting. Its been a long time.

Have a good day all

That Robin is the avian equivalent of Topcat. :biggrin2:

You might well think nothing has been done..... Not so. The fit of all the bearings on the piston side was perfect except for a slight click in the crosshead. So this morning I spent the first hour making a new crosshead pin and fitting it to get a better fit. There is no click now! I spent the rest of the time in the shed converting a piece of scrap into a blank for the eccentric. That's for tomorrow. High quality work, I'm happy.....

Bought my art stuff in Kendal, getting there before it was busy. We stopped off at Lakeland in Windermere on the way back, where I bought all sorts of stuff I didn’t know I wanted :laugh5: , plus stuff that I knew I wanted and had visited for. I love their wood oil and had run out after doing the cover of my last renovation. They had so e chrome cleaner I thought I would try, and I needed to replace my jelly bag in France as I seem to have mislaid mine. I had to use a tea towel when I made the quince jelly.

I had a delivery from Lakeland yesterday, a garlic press and a pair of turning over tongs for cooking.
I shall be in the shed making my eccentric for a couple of hours and all looks well for bookie watch.
Later.... I've started the day by deboning and defatting my oxtail and putting a batch of chicken wings in a casserole with onions and tomatoes. Now for a breather before I go in the shed. The better the day the better the deed...

Morning all

Its our last day. We have to be out by 10.00 am . Its been a really good week, apart from Monday, very dry and pleasant. Yesterday afternoon we had a very pleasant walk to Slaters Bridge and back, a round trip of about 4.3 miles. It was tough going with a steep stoney climb and later many of the footpaths were blocked with fallen trees from recent storms, but a nice way to round off the week.

Today is my birthday so we are meeting Claire, Adam and Erin for lunch on the way back. Have a good day all

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Yes Wendy it usually rains and finishes with thick snow and ice. The cold often does happen , yes. It was the best week we ever had there, including the June week we have now sold . We managed to walk about 20+ miles in totalin some fabulous scenery.
