Lovely, I hope that's not a shark I see in the water!

I've mentioned on this topic before about the danger from dams being breached as a result o melting glaciers. The following isn't due to climate change but shows the danger from collapsing dams as a result of companies getting away with poor quality and maintenance in distant countries. It's not only the ones in Brazil. LINK

I saw that report yesterday and knew it would get your attention Tiz. All the evidence is that your warnings are perfectly feasible and timely. But what the hell do we know about it........

See THIS BBC report of the 'news' that gas usage in homes contributes to CO2 emissions. I think we knew that. It's all very well saying it should be banned but have we an electricity generating capacity to make up what would be an increased demand? More importantly, how would that power be generated? More questions than answers.

I'd have put the beeb above this kind of "no sh*t ?" kind of output. Stating the bl**dy obvious is tabloid territory. Gasp, burning natural gas produces carbon dioxide, who'd have guessed ?

Some of us haven't had our head up our ar*ses for the past 3 decades.

Didn't sleep too well, short fuse this morning.....

Worth listening to 'Farming Today' on R4, TX 05:45. A very sensible man was giving some positive views on climate change. Very refreshing!

See THIS BBC account of a report from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They warn that Wildfires in California are a consequence of climate change and can be expected to increase. Not, as asserted by Trump, a consequence of bad management of the fire fighting system! I wonder if he's reading it......

What used to be regarded as a once in lifetime event, namely the overwhelming of Hull Pot which sits in the foothills of Penyghent. Yesterday after 5" of rain in less than 24 hours the massive sunken cavern that leads to the pot in the base was overwhelmed filling the void.

Images here: North Yorkshire Snow Updates

This is the third time in the last 20 years that this has happened, prior to that I think it was 1989 when there was so much water that it flooded down the lane into Horton in Ribblesdale.

On a much smaller scale I noted the same thing in Barlick, standing water on land where I had never seen it before. The wandering Jet Stream was the primary cause and that is believed to be due to global climate change.

The head of the Environment Agency warns that as summers get warmer and dryer, a trend that is undeniable, river flows in some heavily populated areas are not going to be sufficient and that a shortage of water is coming. The answer is investment in reservoirs, educating the public to drop consumption and forcing the water companies to get leakage rates down. Any signs that anyone is listening?

There is a simpler answer to all those mentioned. Put the cost of water up. Water meter charges can be racked up on virtually any pretext. Bigger profits for the utilities is always an incentive for raising prices.

No surprise there Tiz. All the evidence is pointing the same way and yet we have people like Trump rubbishing the results and a Parliament here that has its collective head that far up its own bottom it does nothing but make a fool of itself. We aren't fit to run a planet.....
Have you noticed that it is routine now to accept that Prof Lovelock is right, we have probably passed the 'tipping point' and are now on the slippery slope to global disaster?

There's been a serious failure to explain to the public that some of what has changed could take a century or more to reverse. We've been pumping more heat into the oceans, for instance, and that won't revert quickly.
