Friday 15th October. I checked later because I realised the first lady hadn't given me a date and it would have been a bugger if it had been yesterday!

An update on my condition. My lymphoma became more active recently and lymph nodes in my neck started swelling again. The tumours continued to grow and I now have a neck that Mike Tyson would be proud of. This is a serious development and whilst looking on the internet I found an experimental treatment to reduce the size of the tumours, not approved for this use but it is approved for other human medical treatments. It would only reduce the size of the tumours, but do nothing to eliminate the lymphoma which is a type of leukaemia affecting the B lymphocytes. I'm now on Day 16 with no noticeable affect. This morning my neck was considerably more swollen and I feel my end is coming fast. So if I drop off the scene you will know why. Good luck to everyone and OGFB.

Graham, that's a bad report and I'm sorry to hear it but we are often our worst physicians. Take whatever treatments there are and thanks for telling us, too many people keep quiet about these things.
I get that feeling about the end being nigh every now and then but up to now I have been wrong every time! Good luck....

Thanks all. I've discontinued the inadequately tested drug and will play the hand I've been given. On a better note, my youngest (blood) daughter has contacted me today for the first time since I came to China 17 years ago. :good:

That all sounds like bad news China. Thanks for being frank enough to let us know.

Your contibution to the site has been wonderful - and may it continue for a long time yet.

I've learned a lot from you about modern China, and I'm grateful for it.

I wish you well, and am thinking of you (and Mrs China) at this difficult time.

I was going to update the surgery on our negative covid results so we could get back on the flu jab rota. No need, we both got letters this morning and are slated for this Friday same day as you Stanley. A minute apart at 2.20 and 2.21pm.

Listening to the latest news about the NHS and reading the news in Private Eye where they try to tell the truth and reading MD in PE is very depressing. The NHS has been neglected and underfunded to the point where sections of it are crumbling. For instance, more hip and knee operations are being done privately than by the NHS.
For someone like me who remembers what it was like before the NHS this is terrible news and deeply depressing.
When will someone admit what has been going on? We are seeing the logical results of outsourcing and allowing profit to be made out of health care. This is a crime.

Is it me or is it the Eye? I find little that interests me in it now, and even the cartoons are not as funny as they were. It's on Direct Debit, and doesn't cost a lot, so I just let it continue. I note my weight every other Wednesday when it arrives - so it still does some good. :laugh5:

Not for me to say David. The Eye has changed but that's mainly because there is so much news that twenty years ago would be a ten day scandal but now is just more of the same news of corruption and lying in our leadership. It makes it very depressing but in my view is still essential reading, we have to know the enemy!

Not sure how Aunty Wainwright fits into Medical matters but always nice to encounter her.
Got flu jab yesterday and also invitation to book Covid Booster (It was the 6 month anniversary of my second shot) Rather cleverly I went on line and booked it at Well to coincide with my annual eye test at Bontoft's! Had to call Bontofts and change that appointment, easier than changing the booster!
No ill effects so far from flu jab but I have heard reports of some so I will take it easy for a day or two.

I saw that article Sue and she's not the only one who is advocating this. I remember in the early days of the vaccine success I heard someone saying that this should make us more successful with the common cold and seasonal flu.
