My experience this week with GPs was good. I have a few hard skin growths that look innocuous but have got to the stage where it would be best to get shot of them. I've had similar before. I rang the surgery in the morning and told them what I wanted to discuss with my named doctor. They said he was out that day but that I'd be better to see Dr Hesford who is a dermatology specialist. They gave me an appointment for 5.10pm that day. Spent 5 minutes with her and I now have an appointment with the surgery for 11th December to have the growths removed. As it's nothing urgent that seems like a good result to me.

One of the reasons the GP surgeries in the UK are under pressure and sometimes it takes a while to see a named doctor is that a lot of appointments are missed with no advance warning from the person concerned. I remember seeing the numbers for our previous surgery and they shocked me. Surprisingly, no data is collected for total missed GP appointments in the UK. A figure of 14 million a year out of a total of 380 million has been quoted in various places but no-one seems to have the evidence for this.

Right everyone! Up off your knees and sweep up all the hair you have pulled out of your own scalps over the Stanley Saga. The old buggar is fine...
Tear up the Attendance Allowance papers, cancel the Macmillan Nurse, and thank Bosum Friends for their kind thoughts.
Then get back to the shed!

If you are a "no show" here at a GP appointment, likely you will be sent the bill...

Maz, sorry but you are wrong on one or two counts. I never contacted Macmillan, as I said at the time I would wait and see. The Attendance Allowance application goes ahead as nobody can predict the future. Good though the result is I still had a malignant growth and something triggered it. It could happen again. This isn't pessimism, it's realism. You were right about the shed, I need to plan my next adventure! Thanks again to all of you and best wishes to Tiz and Ian.

I really didn't doubt the outcome of the scans. There didn't look much wrong with the guy I saw in the flesh a few weeks ago. Fit as a butcher's dog comes to mind - in fact Jack almost is a butcher's dog.

Great news Comrade.
I've been a bit taken up with Cath's health over the past few days. She saw the GP a couple of weeks ago about an incessant headache and back pain. Over a week and whilst the back pain was easing the headache was getting worse. On Thursday she got our local pharmacist to check her BP which was 200/100 and he suggested she see her GP immediately. GP responded well and gave her an appointment that evening. Blood pressure had lowered slightly but meds were proscribed and a blood test and further checks arranged for Friday. She saw the nurse yesterday and BP was down to 170/70 which was much better. Headache is abating and after a couple of good nights sleep she feels back on top form. Nolic

I hope she continues to improve Colin, going in the right direction but still quite high at 170.

I have just joined the closed Facebook group Meningioma UK. Started about 8 years ago for discussion and support for those affected by the condition.

On the same theme I watched a couple of Youtube video's last night of craniotomy surgery dealing with meningioma tumours. Still amazed that I have never had a headache.

Poor Cath. She has had her troubles in the past. Nowt worse than a persistent headache. Give her our best, Nolic.

Browsing the FB site I have just joined convinces me that I am doing remarkably well. It does depend a lot on where your tumour is (was) located though. Fatigue seems to be the common denominator in those that have had the surgery and are on the recovery journey. I can relate to that but that is improving albeit slowly with me also. You have to bank every small gain you make, it helps to keep you going.

Not just yet, they have found something that's worrying them in the CT scan of my bladder and I go for an assessment on Tuesday and another operation, this time under general anaesthetic, on Tuesday the 11th for 'deep biopsies of the bladder'. It looks like a bit more than belt and braces.....
Ian, quite clear that you are an exceptional case. Could be the work you have put in!

Ive myself been seeing a specialist about my blood ( pcv is too high ) and they wanted to know why. Had a couple of ct scans but nothing serious showed up like cancer but specialist wants me to have blood test every month and venisection every month for 6 months
A venisection is where they take a pint of blood out your are providing if the veins will let blood out

Amount of needles ive had in me with blood tests,venisections,and fluid for ct scans is unreal i felt like a pin cushion at times

A bit confused Stanley, have you had an update on your CT scan since your report on Thursday when you saw Hassan? You said there that your CT scan had come back clear or is this the biopsy that you referred to there? Anyway, seems like they are on top of it so it's still a positive and in the right direction.

well...you would have been due another Cystoscopy soon anyway...

On the Left side of my brain, there is nothing, Right? And on the Right side of my brain there is nothing Left

Not as confused as I am.... This is a bit more than a cystoscopy... All will become clear when I get to ask some direct questions of the surgeon. I get the feeling they are being economical with the truth because they aren't sure yet. Whatever, it will all become clear eventually. Once again I wait and feel a tad apprehensive!

Worry not. Hubby had that done too. No biggie.
