Did anyone watch the BBC North West show the other night when they were trying to find the family of a dead WW1 soldier and received a Memorial coin engraved with his name. It was found in the attic of a house.
It was interesting to know a little bit about this medal because I have inherited one.

Some years ago I got an e-mail asking if I was a relative of the 'Big Penny' he had found in some woods over Grindleton way. Although my uncle was killed in WW1 and buried in France we would have known about this plaque but I don't think he ever got one. Having an unusualish surname it did make me wonder if it was a distant relative. I did wonder if his true relatives didn't bury it as a private memorial to his death.
