"People should not be dying simply because the experts are being ignored and we can't get our act together to sort out mismanagement in the Oncology services."
Stated by an Oncology specialist on Today this morning when commenting on a case where a woman with breast cancer which developed into a serious Type 4 condition simply because the NHS management failed her.

The BBC has just reported another ransomware attack affecting the NHS. It's an attack on a provider of IT services. I noted this sentence at the end of the report: While it is hard to trace where the gangs are based, analysis suggests that 74% of all money made through ransomware attacks in 2021 went to Russia-linked hackers.

Do I get weary of seeing reports like that because I'm old? Or is it just a natural reaction at any age?

The new PM has just said -

"Boris you are admired from Kyev to Carlisle" See what they did there? Though I doubt the Carlisle angle now.

Not much impact, and an embarrassing silence until someone got he applause going. probably Andrew Stephenson's job. Not helped by her sayng Kyev (Russian) rather than Kiyiv (Ukrainian) She was Foreign Secretary until less than an hour ago.

I wonder if she'd like another Special Advisor? I'm very reasonable.

I heard that David, I listened to her speech live on R4 and you can guess what it did for my health and temper. I turned it off, she was describing a fantasy land. We have got rid of a lying cheating PM and it looks as though we now have one who is deluded and somewhere to the right of Genghis Khan..... Why should England tremble....?

I couldn't resist repeating this quote about Liz Truss on the beeb web site this morning:
In France, meanwhile, she has been branded not the Iron Lady - which was former UK PM Margaret Thatcher's nickname - but the Iron Weathercock. This is a reference to Ms Truss's changing views on the UK leaving the European Union - she went from opponent before the 2016 referendum, to supporter afterwards, saying in July that "some of the portents of doom didn't happen". It's believed the term was first coined in Les Echos in July - but has since caught on among some commentators. (`World reacts to Truss win') LINK

See THIS BBC report on the IMF rebuke to the UK criticising the tax cuts.
Note, in particular, this..... "The criticism from the Washington-based body was without a clear precedent in regard to a major G7 country and shareholder. UK developments are being "closely monitored", it said. It warned "untargeted fiscal packages" were not recommended at a time of high inflation. While this was not any type of 1976-style bailout conversation, it is the sort of warning the IMF more typically makes to emerging economies."

We haven't been able to see enough interaction in public in Parliament to be able to accurately assess what the position is. Perhaps today we will see these matters aired in the House and begin to make our own minds up about the actual position and not just what the news managers give us.

In a BBC article this morning about 5 people including an off-duty police officer being shot dead with several injured in Raleigh, North Carolina.
More than 34,000 people have died in shootings in the US in 2022, more than half of which were from suicide, according to the Gun Violence Archive website.

Quasi Kwarteng is reported as observing that 'The wagons are circling for Liz Truss.'
I suspect he is still confused. If the wagons are circling that implies that they are protecting Ms. Truss and I suspect what he meant to say was that the vultures are circling. If I am right he is as confused in his speech as he was in his policies.

In my cowboys and indian days the wagons circled to protect the settlers. Her supporters may be setting up some defensive strategy but the vultures will win.

From one of the BBC reports about whether Truss will be shoved out...
Another MP said there was no point hanging around: "We need to purge the current incumbents," they said, suggesting it would be a mistake to wait. "The idea we would lose any credibility we have left by removing her is for the birds because we have no credibility."
