Just an aside, here in Adelaide our main city street is King William Street from King William IV, and his wife was called Adelaide.

He was also known as Silly Billy!

Or in the Royal Navy as King Billy, and yes, Stanley has got it right, well done. The figurehead from HMS Royal William. A project has been carried out to shift the 14 old and rather poorly cared for figureheads from the RN History Museum to workshops in London and Cornwall. Here they were renovated by experts and will now go on display in Plymouth. The photo shows King Billy loaded on a special vehicle for transport. You might be able to see the top of his head is missing - that's because his crown was rotted (and anyway they couldn't get him under a lintel until it was removed and the crown had a musket ball embedded in it!). Why was he a silly Billy?
Actually I bought a fascinating book about all the Kings of England...annoyed that Febby could rattle them off at will. I will check it tomorrow. (I have tried and tried to commit these things to memory, but it is hard when you live in another country)

Mrs Tiz is exactly right. Sagars at Gladstone pottery stacked in a bottle kiln. They protected the contents from contamination during firing .
