Looks like a temperature / pressure relief plug of the kind that the core melts at excess temperatures. Pressure cooker or boiler unit.

Sorry Cathy but no. However you have helped Kev to get there, it's a gas jet for a gas lamp. In this case one that was used in a caravan. You're far too young to remember that technology Cathy!
