All right it was Fernlea. It's so obscure that there is no point allowing it to run.
In 2010 the pavement was marked out for the next generation phone mast. There was quite a kerfuffle at the time and the planning permission stayed in place for a long time but for some reason was never acted on. The last time I enquired I was told it had lapsed.

Not quite Glencoe but close enough Wendy. It's the stretch of Rannoch Moor before you get to Glencoe if you are travelling towards the Isles. (This is after all the Road to the Isles as mentioned in the song.)

My post must have gone astray.
Its one of those pedestals set in front of the old steam engines for controlling the steam input. normally it would have a wheel sat on top mush like aa ships rudder control.

Sorry no. It's a scientific instrument connected with running a steam engine.

Last clue... It was used during testing boiler water.

It's a hydrometer floating in a boiler water sample in the container supplied by ICI Nalfloc for testing for their water treatment.

Sorry no Tom. Clue, it's for very thick fluids where the flow has to be sheared rather than simply cut-off so what would you call it?

It is a gate valve but the name most people give them is 'Treacle Valve' because that was what they were first designed for.
