Kev and Cathy have got it between them - well done! The gunflint is from the Brandon flint mine pits in Suffolk, and was well known for a low rate of misfire. The last use of these flints was in the flintlock blunderbuss gun which was still being used for game shooting in Africa. I had heard of him but never taken an interest. I've read the Wikipedia article and hat's enough. What a bloody creep....
I remember being taught that the history of the English Legal system is based solely on the protection of property. This man's story demonstrates that this is true.
I shall go and look for another mystery object.
