Not really Peter, my explanation and quite intuitive when you have the tool and multi cored network cable in your hand. The system was for an upgraded BBC, Master, Archimedes and A3000 computer network infrastructure developed by SJ Research in Cambridge and for use with their Nexus Disc Sharing hardware.

Standard networking on the Beeb was the Econet system which worked over 5 pin DIN plugs and sockets which were originally developed for audio use.

Sorry Tom no. Once again I have to say Kev is right but it's a graver for metal not stone.
Now, can you tell me the name for that shape of graver?

Obviously for cutting something, the curved bit slips underneath and the disc is rotated to cut.
