Yes it is Kev. A valve cover from an early spoked car wheel. They were made of aluminium and I used to collect them from behind the Clifton Garage on Heaton Moor Road and use them to make stink bombs using old nitrate film.

End of an unfinished bit of road? First section of the M6, Preston bypass or maybe the M65 when it stopped at Blackburn.

Or an abandoned bit of road that's been replaced by a bypass.

Kev is right, abandoned when the new road was put in. But.... It's a rather special bit of road and I want to know why.

I'll go with China on that based on the black arrow on the yellow background, looks like a US road sign to me.

China is right, it's some of the original 1926 pavement in a small section of the old Route 66 where it was cut by the new interstate.
