MYSTERY OBJECTS
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Kev and Cathy have got it between them - well done! The gunflint is from the Brandon flint mine pits in Suffolk, and was well known for a low rate of misfire. The last use of these flints was in the flintlock blunderbuss gun which was still being used for game shooting in Africa. That gunflint might have been made in the sheds behind the Flintknappers Arms pub in Brandon! Brandon Flint Mine Pits
Here is more general information about Brandon and flint working. It's an old account but worth reading: `A History of Flint Knapping in Brandon, Suffolk by H. F. Wilson, published 1887' Brandon

Looks a bit like a lathe parting off tool. Maybe capstan based.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Is it the Palace reputedly owned by Putin which has a pole dancing room? (I never miss anything smutty in the news!) I think it's somewhere on the Black Sea coast (perhaps convenient for when he owns Ukraine too.)

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Nicholas Van Hoogstraten owns it. Model 'landlord' . Mercifully little heard of these days.

Good man. He started building this in 1985 and spent £40M on it then just abandoned it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_van_Hoogstraten

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I had heard of him but never taken an interest. I've read the Wikipedia article and hat's enough. What a bloody creep....
I remember being taught that the history of the English Legal system is based solely on the protection of property. This man's story demonstrates that this is true.
I shall go and look for another mystery object.
