I think it has to be said - Diana Ross is a bit over dressed for a Sunday afternoon in broad daylight in Somerset.

Also her voice makes Sir Paul's effort last night sound good. From press reports- he'll surely be canonised soon.

Dare I say it - she's not in tune a lot of the time. I'll sneak off to the study and get an LP out.

The crowd don't seem bothered though - so why should I be?

Oh dear - it's getting embarrassing now. Thread totally lost.

Back to the Wheeltappers and Shunters I'm afraid - she can plug her new record there.

I didn't hear her David but when it comes to judging a voice you have to believe your own ears. I used to get ridiculed because I thought Maria Callas occasionally sang out of tune. This was heresy!
So I'll believe you..... (I always thought she was a touch over-hyped even in her glory days.)

The Diana Ross Glastonbury set was on the radio yesterday evening, I have to agree it was pretty awful. Perhaps she needs to look at retirement.

I've just realised that I did see a few minutes during a channel change and it was a lady in a white dress singing something I thought was extremely boring but I took no notice as I was only passing. So it looks as though I am endorsing both of you.....

Totally agree, we watched half an hour of her before Top Gear, and she was not good. She should team up with Sir Paul and gracefully retire.

Diana Ross sounded great at The Queens Concert, maybe the wind was blowing their voices away. It happens in the open air.
Her and Sir Paul are still touring with sell-out concerts. 👏

Cathy, Mrs P said exactly the same but there is some very sophisticated electronics that will 'adjust' the voice and bring it back in tune. Perhaps HM Queen could afford it the the Glastonbury plebs just had to make do.

There are plenty of local bands that sound much better than some of the 'famous' who rely on autotune technology.
No autotune here https://fb.watch/dVpXMEJ-f7/

You'll probably need a Facebook account (and headphones if you're listening on your phone) but this is what I like.

Cos it's good. . . .

Is that a tattoo on Serena Williams face? I do hope not.

Andy Murray wiping his hands with a towel after every point used to annoy me - then it struck me that they don't do it any more. Just then the commentator piped up with "they don't used the towel so much now they have to go and get it themselves". Very timely

PS Google reveals all -
Why does Serena Williams wear black tape on her face?
The small sections of plaster on Williams' cheek are medical tape designed to help relieve the 40-year-old's sinus problems, according to The Times.Williams wore the tape to help her performances when she reached the doubles semifinals at Eastbourne.

I wonder if the same could have saved Boris fom his recent surgery?

PPS Robinsons Lemon Barley seems to be totally out of favour. That's a shame.

Like every other segment of the British Establishment the The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is very keen on tradition. They are also venal and the two may have clashed here. Robinson's is 'traditional' but other companies may be willing to pay more for product placement.
Did you see the news report that another tennis club has been trying to teach dogs to retrieve the balls? (LINK)

Re: PPPS Nothing can save Boris.
I immediately thought of our Prime Minister Whitlam back in 1975, when he said “God save the Queen “, because nothing will save the Governor General.”
Then the Governor General sacked Whitlam and his government. Haha 😂

Yes Cathy but it didn't end well for the post of Governor General did it.....
But then I looked and found THIS! I was surprised to see that the post of Governor General still exists and that theoretically, he can use reserve powers and fire any government official. However, this would be so controversial that the power would never be used....

Don’t usually start watching tennis until second week, bumped into it on Monday and now we are away. It has been really good, the match which Serena lost last night was excellent, could have gone either way, the same with Nadals.

I got sucked into tennis a long time ago when I was TV engineer. For lots of stay at home mums and those already retired, Wimbledon fortnight was sacrosanct. TV's were not allowed to break down under any circumstance. I would say that the TV was more important for Wimbledon than it was for Christmas. We always made sure we had a few spare "loan" TV's' to cover all eventualities. Not watched any of it yet apart from the highlights but I can say without fear of contradiction that I will as it progresses.

That reflects the BBC Coverage, and that of their disembodied commentators. I'd prefer to say 'the match that Harmony Tan won'

At the end of the match -the cameras followed the narow loser, and poor Harmony was left wondering what to do. Didn't they used to pack their copious luggage, then go as a pair, and curtsey to the occupant of the royal box. A bit of an archaic ritual, but it served a purpose of a dignified exit for both winner and loser.

I thnk I saw Harmomy sign autographs after the match with her left hand. That's odd as she plays right handed. Of course I'd never heard of her, and I enjoyed finding out that she is Fench - of Chinese, Cambodian and Vietnamese extraction. I don't think she'll go much further though - her first serve isn't good enough.

See - I watched, and enjoyed one match - and I'm a pundit already.

You’re right Tripps, Serena just grabbed her stuff, waved a bit to the crowd, and left, don’t think she even acknowledged Harmony except to shake her hand. No chat.

I happened to see two games where Andy lost when I turned the TV on. That'll do me. Professional sport is far too po-faced for me.
