I always got the impression that Danny Alexander was basically a decent chap who had been thrown into the rat pit of Tories. Not very good at telling lies and creative spin. He was not the only Lib Dem who saw their career hit the rocks by joining up with the Tories.

Not sure why the link didn't work. Try this one Sir Danny Alexander

Worth a read. I'd forgotten his nickname in fact I'd almost forgotten him entirely.

In November 2012 the Cairngorm Brewery rebranded their beer called "Cairngorm Gold" as "Ginger Rodent" with Alexander's agreement and cooperation.

Wasn't his sister in politics too for a while?

He seemed very comfortable with his new life in China, and said his focus was mainly on India. The map on his wall showed China as the centre of the world. I think it soon will be. The more I see of modern China - the more I marvel at the difference since I caught a train in 1965 from Hong Kong to the village on the border, which was as far as you were allowed to go, and looked across at the guard towers at regular intervals, across the padi fields.

"He was not the only Lib Dem who saw their career hit the rocks by joining up with the Tories."
And the party as well. I always thought that the coalition with the modern Tories was the biggest mistake they could make.
I watched an episode of the Bridge last night to remind me of what good TV looked like.... :biggrin2:

Well that doesn't happen very often. I've found a 'drama' that I could watch.

'Manhunt The Night Stalker' - with Martin Clunes. I'll be there for the end tomorrow.

Now I know why - it wasn't a 'drama' but was based on a true case. That made the last half hour very confusing.

More Bridge last night. A wonderful series and well worth watching again.
Can I put on record how much I dislike the new El Cheapo R4 offering of 'Fourthought' presented by Ollie Man. It's a procession of people giving a 12 minute talk on a subject that involves them stating the bleeding obvious.

We have just caught up with the first episode of the latest Mortimer and Whitehouse Gone Fishing series. It's an absolute joy to watch and if you have never seen it, start at the very beginning back in 2018.

Time Team making a return with some of the original experts including Carenza, but not on mainstream TV, it looks like they will launch on You Tube.

They have been looking for sponsership for about a year and a bit, releasing older episodes, some with additional comment and follow up.

On Friday nights we’ve been watching re runs of Doc Martin on more4, last night they started again right from the beginning. One of the good things of getting old is we hardly remembered any of it, so we can enjoy them all over again. 😂
