The one I posted was said to be taken in 1895. The buildings on the right were demolished in 1950 when the road was widened. (From Red Rose Collection)

The old Parker's Arms was demolished in 1899 (not 1888 as it says in The History of Colne) and rebuilt soon after. The rebuilt Parkers Arms was demolished in 1938, as was The Swan, according to the same book.
If you see the Ivegate Clock it's before 1875 and if there are tram lines it's between 1903 and 1934.

Massey's Brewery gave up the licences of The Swan, the Golden Fleece and the Parker's Arms in 1938 and in return were allowed to build a new hotel at the junction of North Valley Road and Harrison Drive. This was originally to be called the Parker's Arms but became the North Valley Hotel, convenient for motor traffic and passing trade.
Looking at newspaper articles of the time the buildings on Church Street were still standing in 1940....

The white-fronted building on the far right is the ancient White Horse Inn which was demolished in 1886.

Alkincoats Hall, 1900.
Built in 1575, altered in 1720 and demolished in 1958.
Colne Corporation bought the Hall and 92 acres of the estate in 1921 for £24,082, 32 acres for the purpose of a park, and during the Second World War it housed evacuees from Bradford, Salford and Liverpool.

What a shame demolishing that, it’s not as though the space was needed for a road coming through. Too many old buildings have been demolished when they needn’t have been.

This was at the time when it was fashionable to demolish old buildings. Dry rot was given as the reason. I would say Council vandalism. In todays world they would have converted to flats asking premium prices.

It was on what's now Albert Road Gloria, around where the Co op building is.

This photo gives a clue as to where it was, I think the unfinished building is now the Pendle Chiropody Clinic right beside the Co op building.

Beech, Maple and Spruce streets all ran off Cedar street up there.
