A cricket match in Earby, date unknown. Note some are in whites but some in waistcoats and I think bowler hats. But what really interests me about this image is that this is the only pic I have ever seen that shows Bracewell's original Green End Shed.

Image

Earby Beck seen off New Road. The building on the left is an extension of Big Mill. was it called Victoria Shed. It stands on the footprint of the original Green End Mill.

It was an extension to Victoria Mill but not on the footprint of Green End Shed, that was higher up New Road away from the beck.

The building nearest the road in the modern photo was Earby Brass Band Club.

I stand corrected Wendy, you are quite right. Thanks. I love the blokes wearing bowler hats on the pitch if that's what they are.....

I'd be guessing 1930s from the hair and clothing, so Silver Jubilee 1935?

We at least it's the right way up, assuming that if it was on a pole, that would be at the right. :extrawink: Not like the majority put up by Barlick Town Council around town which are upside down!

There is a right and a wrong way, a binary decision, not rocket science to get it right. It's like socks with sandals, there are just some things that you don't do! :extrawink:

"The motion was passed unanimously by both Labour and Tory members of Pendle borough council."

I actually watched a lot of that meeting live. I heard Palestine mentioned, but failed to get the gist of it all. I stand to be corrected, but never heard the word flag mentioned at all, just a general motion about solidarity with Palestine. Hard to argue against it, in view of the current attitude to Ukraine in similar circumstances. The vote was a 'named vote' and was indeed unanimous, following a warning from Cllr Iqbal that any abstension would be seen as a dereliction of duty.

Watch here Pendle Council if you have four hours or so to spare. If not fast forward to about 3:36 for the relevant section.

Further to 'democracy' -

Mr Ahmed said that the Union Flag would be flown again later today. He refused to say why he had supported the motion, saying: “I don’t need to answer questions from a media journalist.
The ceremony last Friday was attended by Husam Zomlot, head of the Palestinian diplomatic mission to the UK, a longstanding friend of the former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, who was a guest at his 2010 wedding.

Ahhh politics.... Of course Mr Ahmed (Who he?) was wrong, all relevant questions should be answered, it's called transparency.
On a different aspect of reporting, what has the fact that Jeremy Corbyn went to the man's wedding got to do with as vote to fly the Palestinian flag?
'Media journalist' is tautology.
As to flying the flag in the first place, I too have sympathy with the Palestinians but think that flying the flag on the Town Hall on Jubilee weekend smacks of provocation. It could have been handled better.

Oh Dear! Ian, Sally and myself all went to Jeremy Corbyn's rally outside the Nelson town hall. Our cards are marked, social pariahs to be avoided at all costs. Not the Periyar that we were aspiring to be.
