Wendy.
So would it have run left to right between these houses behind the centre one in the foreground?

That looks likely, with the 2 houses you can see at the end being on Aspen Lane.

Yes, you are right, Wendy.
The house visible in my original White Lion st old shot is still there, just checked on Google.
Well, looking at the fenestration, it seems to be that house.
I'm sure I have another old image of that area somewhere, I'll dig it out tomorrow.

Can you help me out with this one, Wendy?
I've always had it in my mind that it was the top of Aspen lane area but I'm beginning to think I'm wrong.

Yes Mick it was closed by then. I have an idea the building was used by Earby Film Transport for a while. My mate Steve drove for them. Next time I see him I'll ask.....

I like this atmospheric photo from the 1950s

11231217_1658486377774497_3588991247554351355_o.jpg

The Blue Plaque now on the building which replaced the fire destroyed former cinema.

I asked Steve about Earby Film Transport, he used to drive for them. I was wrong about them using the cinema, their garage was on Waddington Street.

Carters Woodshed demolition. I believe this would have been the late 1970's or early 1980's.
I seem to remember looking up the price for the brick building on the far end and the narrow strip on land.
£20,000.
I almost fainted.

I remember when they built that house I thought it was such a restricted site Mick but today such small footprints are common.

That's funny, the houses don't look like standard prefabs and I thought that was how the Northolme estate started.

The prefabs on The Ranch were built to an earlier design than the standard, post war prefab.

Red Lion Street. This image has always fascinated me. I went searching once but could get no definite identity for the girl. The nearest I got was that she was most likely from the farm next to the pub.

Jim Pollard as a promising Earby cricketer in about 1930. Cricket was his life and the reason he got a job under Wilfred Nutter that lasted him the whole of his working life was because Wilfred was a cricket enthusiast and financed a team at Bancroft Shed. Jim was enrolled in the firm for his cricket skills but later became a very competent weaving manager. Flatley Dryer country as well as Earby interest I suspect.
