I had to smile yesterday when I saw a LibDem MP being asked a question about why Corbyn was anathema to her party. After trotting out the usual Marxist accusations she added "Mind you, he does have an allotment!"

Some friends of mine had a part share in a race horse. The usual outgoings on stable fees and training etc: Occasionally they would get a notification it was going to run in such and such a race then at the last minute it would be pulled out. Now a two year old they were told the horse was lame and would never make the grade. They, the stables, would try to find a buyer. It was sold to an adjacent stable at some knock down price. The suspicion was that it was a big con and they had just paid for the rearing for someone else to make the profit. That's life I suppose.

I heard that interview and have referred to it in Politics Corner Tiz. He made a lot of sense, I have ordered the book to follow on after Bryson.
David, it was ever thus! Here's a bit from me memoirs.

It turned out that father and Tommy had met at the White City and eventually bought a greyhound and put it into training at a professional kennels. The dog did well enough but never got to the point where it was paying its way and the trainer advised them to sell it. I find he's 34 years old, and we have the same birthday.

Let's put it this way then, his career path up to now has been devoted entirely to driving fast. Admirable success but what's his wider experience? I always remember Tony Blair taking advantage of the PR opportunity offered by a local archaeological dig in his constituency. It was obvious from his questions that he had zero knowledge of history. It surprised me at the time. I couldn't conceive how someone could get to running the country without having a working knowledge of the Romans and Vikings.
David Moore once told me that he couldn't understand how a bloke that had endured twenty years solitary confinement in a wagon cab could emerge unscathed and I had to point out to him that I was seeing new things every day and thinking about them. That's what triggered my interest in history and my wide knowledge of different industries. Being on the tramp was hard but a wonderful education!
