And Trumps the other day regarding Turkeys incursion into Northern Syria, "They, (the Kurds) didn't help us in Normandy".

What an absolute moron!

There is an ISIS army in captivity, held by the Kurds waiting for escape.

Sounds like a crossword clue David..... Do tell.

I had to smile yesterday when I saw a LibDem MP being asked a question about why Corbyn was anathema to her party. After trotting out the usual Marxist accusations she added "Mind you, he does have an allotment!"

Actually it was later than it should have been, and I misquoted.

It was really Jeffrey Bernard's quote - the Spectator columnist he who was often 'unwell'.

Valentine Dyall was asked at his bankruptcy hearing - to what he ascribed his present condition, to which he replied "two mile handicap hurdles races Milord".

You'll get my drift. The detail is to painful at the moment, but I'll survive.

I think there's a bit of the 'when I get old I shall wear purple' syndrome at play. :laugh5:

Some friends of mine had a part share in a race horse. The usual outgoings on stable fees and training etc: Occasionally they would get a notification it was going to run in such and such a race then at the last minute it would be pulled out. Now a two year old they were told the horse was lame and would never make the grade. They, the stables, would try to find a buyer. It was sold to an adjacent stable at some knock down price. The suspicion was that it was a big con and they had just paid for the rearing for someone else to make the profit. That's life I suppose.

John Le Carre, on `Today' this morning, referred to Donald Trump's `extraordinary gospel'. I think he was choosing his words carefully, but it seems a good expression!

I heard that interview and have referred to it in Politics Corner Tiz. He made a lot of sense, I have ordered the book to follow on after Bryson.
David, it was ever thus! Here's a bit from me memoirs.

"I had always known that there was a close bond between my father and Tommy O’Connell our family doctor. It turned out that father and Tommy had met at the White City and eventually bought a greyhound and put it into training at a professional kennels. The dog did well enough but never got to the point where it was paying its way and the trainer advised them to sell it. As soon as it was sold it started winning every race it entered under the same trainer. The difference was that these were hurdle races. The trainer knew it was good over hurdles but never let on and so father and Tommy were taken to the cleaners!"

Let's put it this way then, his career path up to now has been devoted entirely to driving fast. Admirable success but what's his wider experience? I always remember Tony Blair taking advantage of the PR opportunity offered by a local archaeological dig in his constituency. It was obvious from his questions that he had zero knowledge of history. It surprised me at the time. I couldn't conceive how someone could get to running the country without having a working knowledge of the Romans and Vikings.
David Moore once told me that he couldn't understand how a bloke that had endured twenty years solitary confinement in a wagon cab could emerge unscathed and I had to point out to him that I was seeing new things every day and thinking about them. That's what triggered my interest in history and my wide knowledge of different industries. Being on the tramp was hard but a wonderful education!
Another route to the same goal is voracious reading......

Speaking at an election rally in Dallas yesterday President Trump said:

That's his view of his responsibility for the Ukraine debacle.

A good morning for quotes.
Guy Verhofstadt: 'I was honoured this morning to be compared to John Bercow. This far better than being compared to Jacob Rees-Mogg. Bercow's ties are more colourful!'

Caroline Lucas: `MPs had more time to debate the Wild Animals in Circuses Act (affecting 19 animals) than they will have to decided the future of 65 million people.'

Jacob Rees Mogg is an oily little bugger isn't he. Patronising and arrogant sums it up I think. He has an extremely high opinion of himself.

Here's a quotation from Jethro Tull (LINK)
It's quoted in Dorothy Hartley's book on English Food and it struck me it's as true now as it was in 1700.
"Men of the greatest learning have spent time in contriving instruments to measure the stars. They think it more eligible to study the Art of Ploughing the sea with ships, than Tilling the land with ploughs. They bestow the utmost of their skill learnedly to pervert the National use of all the Ellements for the destruction of their own species by the Bloody Art of War. They invent an infinite variety of slaughter, but think it beneath a Man of Learning to employ his labour in the invention of a new instrument for increasing bread."

Stanley's mention of diabetes elsewhere prompted me to look at the history of the disease. I found this comment attributed to Thomas Willis (1621-75):
"Diabetes was so rare among the ancients that many famous physicians did not mention it but in our age given over to good fellowship and guzzling down of unallayed wine, we meet with examples enough, I may say daily, of this disease." Diapedia
