Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
Today's tip. If you feel the need for a thrill try making a yellow top out of material that doesn't want to go into the shape you are after. Or knit a complicated Fair Isle pattern. Or make a beam engine. Whatever you do don't even think about 'tombstoning' off a 200 ft high cliff. That's for the birds!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
Today's tip is Rudyard Kipling's advice on dealing with boredom.
THE Camel's hump is an ugly lump
Which well you may see at the Zoo;
But uglier yet is the hump we get
From having too little to do.
Kiddies and grown-ups too-oo-oo,
If we haven't enough to do-oo-oo,
We get the hump—
Cameelious hump—
The hump that is black and blue!
We climb out of bed with a frouzly head,
And a snarly-yarly voice.
We shiver and scowl and we grunt and we growl
At our bath and our boots and our toys;
And there ought to be a corner for me
(And I know' there is one for you)
When we get the hump—
Cameelious hump—
The hump that is black and blue!
The cure for this ill is not to sit still,
Or frowst with a book by the fire;
But to take a large hoe and a shovel also,
And dig till you gently perspire;
And then you will find that the sun and the wind,
And the Djinn of the Garden too,
Have lifted the hump—
The horrible hump—
The hump that is black and blue!
I get it as well as you-oo-oo
If I haven't enough to do-oo-oo!
We all get hump—
Cameelious hump—
Kiddies and grown-ups too!

I admit, I rode on the hump of the Wump of Gump, yesterday.
Cheery self again today.

Accepting climate change issues the "old" turnings of the seasons work for me and always will. They work like clockwork

If it gets really hot I might do without or wear a Bond Chesty.
Today's tip, there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing.

He/she has been at “ours” too, Stanley!
I just need the Floor Fairy to put in an appearance and get rid of the dog hair and dog drool marks.

Martha says she still misses having the Sink Fairy in the house....
Today's tip. The best ally in the fight for time in the shed is forward planning. Get the little things out of the way the day before!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I always start my day with coffee in bed (watching the news ), then a warm deep bath.
I can tackle anything after that.
I change my kitchen tea towels as soon as dinner is cooked. That way, new ones come out for wiping the dinner dishes. If I have done any extra cooking during the day, I change them before wiping those dishes. ( I can go through 4 or 5 tea towels a day sometimes.)

Air drying without touching them is probably the most hygienic way to dry dishes. God makes a good job of them!

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
When I started building Kahara's engine my first thought was will I live long enough to finish it. The chances are looking good now.
I have decided that as soon as I finish this one I'll start another for myself. Today's tip, having a long term project on the go is good for us and might be a way of prolonging life! (Besides, I know the pitfalls now and the second one will be better!)

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
If you don't mind me saying those two bars from the pillar to over the piston look too modern (straight) for the period of the machine. I would have thought that something a bit more curly-wurly would make it look a bit more period looking. Don't shout at me I was only expressing my view.

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I agree, if the bars were a tad longer they could be rounded which would be an improvement on the eye. Not ganging up, just an observation now Ken has mentioned it.

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
I keep telling the folk at church groups that, particulary when we have the sun through the kitchen windows and it has only been a dozen for lunches.( more than that and the dish washer gets loaded), the women still insist that wiping with grotty towels has to be done (I do try to ensure new come out in the morning ,sometimes I am not quick enough).

Re: HOUSEHOLD TIPS NOT FOUND IN WOMAN'S WEEKLY
You are entitled to your opinion about the bars. Best thing to do is build one for yourself..... Most early engine were built in house and the entablature beams were superfluous, they used the beams on the roof. But many had straight entablature beams.
Like this late 18th century rotative beam engine by Boulton and Watt. One of the earliest. The ornamentation you have seen was mainly on civic engines where pride was a factor. Commercial Machines were built without unnecessary ornamentation.
