Don't let familiarity breed contempt. Make thorough hand washing and general Hygiene part of everyday life. Too easy to slack off vigilance and backslide!

I've always believed that the best is sometimes the enemy of the good. How many times have you seen people who get very little done because they are striving for perfection? My attitude is that you reach a point where the return doesn't justify the investment and 'that's good enough'.
However, there are times when you look at what you have done and it bothers you that it could be better. In that case, go back and do it again, that gets the monkey off your back. This comes to mind because I am in that position today, something is nagging me, I shall attack it!

I ponder on Marilyn's post this morning about her ancestry research. I have no advice for her but am glad that once I had uncovered the major facts about my father I was satisfied, wrote 'An Australian Life' and ticked that itch off as scratched. Today's tip is to consider taking the same relaxed view. If I can be accused of OCD, let it be for shed activities!

Sewed a bit of wire from some 2.5mm t&e into the top of one of Sally's face masks, it moulds over my nose and holds the mask against my face. No more steamed up glasses.

Version 2 will be with a bit of 1mm as 2.5 is a bit stiff, it works though

Is it my imagination or do many people live in their sleepwear unless they have to go out for something?
Today's tip, get dressed and do your toilet when you get up just as if you were going out to work on the early shift. That way you have a clear beginning and ending to the day and this is conducive of (or to?) good sleep patterns. Old-fashioned but it works, when Jack sees me having a shave he knows we are going out!

During isolation I have often got back into clean pyjamas after my morning shower. I love it .

I imagine it is your pleasure for living alone, Cathy.
My hubby cannot stand to see me in pyjamas or dressing gown - not even to watch a movie in the evenings. He made that clear very early on in our relationship! So I remain dressed all day, until I go to bed. Good thing he doesn’t begrudge me wearing slippers.

Freshly shaved and dressed I am back from our early walk. Today's tip (after yesterday!) Don't take your eye off Jack for one second when he is running free. He has no sense of you or where he is. I can live with that as long as he is happy! I keep him close and keep talking to him.

Son tucks his dear old dog under a blanket on the couch each night when he goes to bed. This was last night’s photo.

He came home from 10 hours at work yesterday, to find her on her couch, and she seemed a bit cross about being woken...
You can tell by her tummy that she has lost a fair bit of weight since choosing her vegetarian diet, but it has done wonders to lessen the strain on her heart.

She is soon off that couch when food starts cooking though, typical Labrador!

Today's tip, given to me many years ago by an old dog man I respected; "The biggest dog you ever come across only needs a double handful of food each day". I think he was right as long as it wasn't a working dog.

I was asked the other day what keeps me going. Apart from genes and good grub and exercise it's because I see it as a duty to be about as long as possible for my kids and grandchildren. I have consulted with them and they agree I still have a value. So today's tip is always have an object in view, beware of wandering aimlessly!

Another valuable attribute is to be optimistic. Like an old bloke with cancer spending £400 on a pair of shoes that will last over fifty years. Equivalent to putting two fingers up at fate!

As I often say, I think my brain is wired up differently than most people's. I was thinking about the day this morning and realised that I was really looking forwards to two hours in the shed with some seriously large files and my castings. I doubt if this is 'normal'! But there you are, it's my 'normal' and so far it seems to be working. It's an enthusiasm and I recommend everyone to cultivate one, for some it could be geology and post cards, for others making complicated wireless sets, it doesn't matter, they are all objects of interest and ends in view. I pity anyone who can't generate these themselves, I reckon it's a lack of primary education. I don't count interests from external sources like electronic games, it has to come from inside your brain. The enquiring mind...
(I told you, I suspect I am wired up differently!)

Fortunately a lot of people are still wired up like you are Stanley, at least as far as hobbies and interests are concerned. I totally agree with your comments about the value of hobbies and interests. I always feel that the world would be a better place if even more people had such interests - they wouldn't then amuse themselves by annoying the rest of us!

I detect a flaw in that thesis Pater. Are you saying that I'm never annoying?
Thinking about the shed and obsolete machinery, I get a lot of pleasure out of doing a good job on a machine like a horizontal mill. Regarded as totally obsolete in today's speed obsessed world but the best thing for some jobs.
There is virtue in being anachronistic! ("anachronism. Noun. uk. A person, thing, or idea that exists out of its time in history, especially one that happened or existed later than the period being shown, discussed, etc."

We have now been brain washed into thinking that everything has a direct monetary value. Why spend a couple of hours mending something that costs less than a £pound. Throw it away and buy another. Alternatively trying to repair it may give you two hours of satisfaction and the knowledge of how things work. Pleasure at this personal level is always worth having.
