MYSTERY OBJECTS
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Workers cave dwellings. Don't know where but I've seen smaller units on one of our rambles quite local.
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
If that tyke is me, I've no idea where this is. I thought war defences too, like a gun emplacement because the apertures are so exactly cut. Someone has gone to a lot of trouble. So, if that is a nudge Kev, it suggests China!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Kev could be teasing us. If anyone gets the impression China is involved, they're right!
Not a building Cathy but you are right if you are suspecting age.
Clue, could be going for a Song.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
As in Song Dynasty? Could it be the emperor's final resting place? Just guessing and fishing!

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Not the final resting place but yes, connected with the Song dynasty.
Clue: What we are looking at is unfinished.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
He's got it. (Were you there before him Kev?) Stone blocks in Yangshan Quarry near Nanjing, China. The quarry could cut the stone blocks but they were too heavy to be moved. Have a look at THIS for a full description.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
I'm still trying to get my head round the fact that someone somewhere could even consider moving a piece of stone that big. 1,600 tons? It was someone who knew nothing at all about moving heavy weights!
I'm thinking about the next one.....
Later....

What is happening here?

Gas tanker?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It came from France ?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Are those windows in the side we can see? Also on the right hand straight bit it looks as though a rope is joining the two corners with a dangly bit in the middle, possibly used for towing it?

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
No windows needed Gloria and yes, you're on the right track with towing.

Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
It looks like the hull of a boat that has been covered over with a round hood to seal it. Why would they do that? Fumigation? Or just to protect the load?
Re: MYSTERY OBJECTS
Stanley, you've responded to Gloria's last post but what about those of Kev, Bodger and Chinatyke?

Peter, you're right. I don't remember seeing them! No doubt my fault but yes, Kev got it right, it's the container that has Cleopatra's Needle in it. Sorry Kev, can't think how that happened and thanks for the heads up Peter. (LINK)
