Took me a few attempts to open the wheelie bin this morning, there's plenty of ice about here.

Yesterday , 39C, I took two steps out of the back door to shake-out a towel, and hadn’t bothered to put my shoes on. I lasted 2 seconds... my soles were burning!
Bugger the towel. Ouch!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
No danger of that here Cathy!
Yesterday managed to stay dry and at 20:00 it was calm, freezing and a clear sky, same first thing this morning. It's still freezing but has clouded over slightly now. The glass is up on 1014mb. The forecast is for a cloudy day with a chance of rain/snow showers and a yellow warning for ice as it's freezing all day. The wind is light and variable and settles down as an easterly giving us a high of 2C and a low of 1C with as much as a -3C wind chill later in the day.
The outlook is for similar weather for the next two days, even colder tomorrow and then the weather warms up for a few days but with rain at first on Saturday.
05:30 I've had my short walk, it's calm and cloudy and we have a frost. We also have the first scattered drops of rain. That could be a bad combination, watch out for slippery conditions.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday we settled down to a day of rain and not snow. At 20:00 it was cold and still raining. First thing this morning still raining but now more wind. I've just looked outside and no change, still raining! The glass is down on 1010mb. The forecast is for the rain to turn to snow and persist all day. The easterly wind is moderate and slackens as the day goes on. The high will be 1C and the low -2C with as much as a -5C wind chill when the wind is strongest. The outlook is for three similar days to today and on Monday it could turn milder with more rain. Enjoy! It's winter.
05:10. Back from my usual early morning walk. It's not freezing but it must be very close to it so be careful. What is certain is that it is wet, windy, cold and miserable! I feel sorry for anyone who has to be outside working in it.
08:00. The Met office is hardening the forecast up and if they are right we can expect some significant snow. Be careful out there. (I've just looked out and we have sleet at the moment.)

We have had lots of rain during the night, and there is a lot of lying water about. Not cold over here though, and certainly doesn’t feel like snow.

It's below freezing here with icy wet snow falling heavily. There is an easterly wind which means drifts on the roads, yuck.

Snow still falling with just the odd car track on a whiteout road. Mrs P has checked provisions and declared enough for another week. I knew that body fat would come in handy

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
The snow slacked off so much that I decided that as it was so slushy underfoot and not actually snowing I could go the the pharmacy for my meds rather than having them delivered. I did that and it was a good call. Much colder today and I suspect much worse underfoot. At 20:00 it was calm, very cold and overcast but not snowing. This morning first thing it's the same but colder and misty. The glass is up on 1025mb. The forecast is for a dry overcast day, there is a yellow warning for ice. The very light ESE wind is constant and gives a high of 0C and a low of -4C with a -2C wind chill. Expect it to be very slippy underfoot as any salt will have been washed off by the slush yesterday. The outlook is for much warmer windier weather but tomorrow could have a wind chill strong enough to give ice underfoot. Be careful!
05:15. Don't look for a detailed description of the state of the town this morning. It's foggy, freezing and horrible underfoot so I haven't gone out of the back yard. Sorry kids but it would simply be silly to try to walk on this lot. I feel sorry for anyone who has to do so.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Yesterday was a lockdown day for me hard frost all day, never went out. Far too slippy underfoot. A broken hip at my age can be as deadly as Covid. At 20:00 it was still calm, misty and freezing hard. First thing this morning it was breezy but dry and still freezing hard, half an hour later at 03:00 and it was raining. That's still the case. The glass is down on 1012mb and falling fast. The forecast is for significant rain until midday and then dry but clouded. The wind is the story, We have a brisk South wind that will back to West very soon, it gusts to about 40mph at times and gives a high of 6C and a low of 2C with a chill of -5C which means that until midday the perceived temperature will be below freezing but after that will improve. I think we can confidently expect the ice to be gone by this evening.
The outlook is for this mild wet weather to continue until Thursday when it might dip into a frost again.
05:00. If you're looking for an heroic account of a short walk in the town forget it! The rain is heavier now than earlier and the wind is stronger as well. The frozen snow lying on the ground is rapidly melting and I think we might see the back of it this morning even though, theoretically, we are still sub zero because of the wind chill. My advice, if you can, is to stay inside and wait for things to warm up a bit!
Later, listening to the shipping forecast and the genera; land forecast it looks as though we are very lucky. There are forecasts of snow to the North, East and south of us! The glass is still falling and so is the rain....

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
The last of the snow and ice went away yesterday. At 20:00 it was dry, a light breeze and broken cloud. Same first thing this morning but there has been a light shower during the night. I've just popped out and the sky has cleared even more, there are stars visible, it is dry and mild. The glass is up on 1014mb. The forecast is for clear intervals with sun until midday then bright cloud for the rest of the day. The constant moderate west wind veers between NW and SW and gives a high of 5C and a low of 4C with a -4C wind chill all day making it feel much colder. The outlook is for similar mild temperatures but for the next three days expect rain and wind. it looks like another Atlantic low taking charge.
05:00. Normal service has been resumed now that the ice has gone. I've had my early morning walk round the car park. It's calm, dry and mild, no frost and the cloud is broken. A much better morning than we have been having but from the look of it, back to rough weather tomorrow!

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
Worth looking at the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. The Met Office have issued a very specific amber warning for rain which affects us. These forecasts are often refined as the day gets closer but this one looks quite firm. (LINK)

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
It became much milder yesterday and at 20:00 we had a light breeze and light rain. First thing this morning it was the same and the only change is that at the moment it's not actually raining but wet. The glass had risen slightly but is falling and back on 1015mb. The forecast is for an overcast day with a chance of showers, some heavy, this morning and lighter showers with sunny intervals later. The wind is constant WSW and gives a high of 5C and a low of 4C with a -5C wind chill so it will feel cold all day. Tomorrow and Wednesday still carry an amber warning for heavy rain.
05:10. Back from a walk round the Pioneer Car Park. It's not raining at the moment but wet and windy. The wind chill is making it feel very cold even though it's not freezing. Not a pleasant morning but better than crisp frost and snow!

They've named the storm that's bringing us the rain for the next two days, Christoph. There could be 200mm of rain in some places. (8") We know the Met Office cries wolf at times but I think it's worth noting this one.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I had a dry walk round the Green yesterday afternoon but by 20:00 it was raining and is still raining this morning. The glass started to fall yesterday and this morning and is on 996mb this morning. The forecast is for it to rain all day and there is an amber weather warning for rain. The wind is a constant moderate WSW giving a high of 9C and a low of 8C with a wind chill of -3C. This is Storm Christoph and we shall have it with us tomorrow as well.
I have news for anyone on the edge of their seats waiting with bated breath fro my 05:00 weather report. I'm not bothering to have a walk round the car park because I have to go out later to the surgery. I don't need to go out to tell you that the wind is starting to rise, the glass is still falling, it hasn't stopped raining and there is no frost.

Re: TODAY'S PENNINE WEATHER
I think we can all agree that yesterday it rained. It was still raining at 20:00 and first thing this morning. I have just been out to have a look and surprise surprise, we have a light breeze and rain. The glass fell all day and is on 976mb and still falling. The forecast is quite simple, we have an amber warning of rain all day. The constant SW wind is moderate and gives a high of 9C and a low of 1C with a -3C wind chill all day. The amber warning extends into tomorrow as well, the difference is that it's colder and there could be snow mixed in with the rain. Deep Joy!
