I had a chicken stir fry with fresh Chinese type noodles. Very nice - and there's enough left over for a wrap at lunchtime tomorrow.

Just noticed that that the "Curry Powder" which was sprinkled liberally during the frying was in fact " Mixed Spice'".

I never noticed - and it goes some way to confirming that my taste buds are not up to snuff following the Covid.

I cooked a cauldron of chicken curry, fed two of us for tea and another 2 meals worth in the freezer.

David, that reminds me of the time I was staying with Susi in a friend's house in Montreal when she announced one day she had found her friend's stash in the fridge. She persuaded me to smoke some and I told her that even though I was not a user I thought it was very strange stuff. I had a closer look and found it was mixed herbs........
As for tea yesterday, I had my usual chicken and veggies X three and made a few sweet potato chips for a weekly treat.

Scotch egg and veggies X three as we finish cooking and start into this weeks 4hour roast chicken and veggies. (I've started on the chicken despite eating Scotch Eggs because the gravy from cooking the chicken and the roast peppers have all gone in with the veggies as usual.

Had a Salmon Wellington from Aldi's frozen range last night and was very impressed, a good sized lump of salmon fillet, in a creamy sauce and light flaky pastry. A nice, easy, treat with some frozen mixed vegetables.
Back to 'normal' cooking for the next week as I'm off shift now.

You know what I had and I compared the cost with a take away pizza. I was astounded when I saw how much people pay.

It just so happened that we had Sainsbury's salmon, spinach, cheese en croûte. Far too much pastry and too little salmon. Personally not impressed.

Between £12 -£16 for a large takeaway pizza appears to be the norm, I understand the retailers have rent, energy bills and wages to pay but there must be money out there or these places will have gone bust by now.

I've just bought a Deep Pan three cheese pizza from Aldi yesterday for £!.25. It's 9" diameter, and after adding a few extra toppings from whatever is 'on special' in my fridge, and the addition of some salad - It will provide two good quality meals.

There's always a pepperoni on the go, and usually some Polish garlic sausage, (both keep for ages in the fridge) plus of course some finely sliced onion and a fourth cheese - Collier's cheddar, and a sprinkle of mixed herbs.

It's too big for the air fryer, but does nicely in the halogen oven.

I get brochures from the local pizza place every week, and have a quiet smirk to my self.

I had chicken and veggies again. A surfeit of veggies this week but I shall manage without waste.
(Most of veggies bought at Chaudrey's yesterday....)

Went to Banny's, at Boundary Mill, for tea today. Had a very nice bit of haddock with a bowl of salad.

I had the last of the veggies and chicken from last week. I have started cooking this weeks veggies. Today I shall roast the 4 hour chicken and cook the greens.....

Kids and grandchildren for tea last night. New potatoes, ham, (from a joint slow cooked overnight), carrots, trees and cheese sauce. Followed by some of the chocolate cookies I made yesterday morning.

The recipe for the cookies was from a compendium from the WI and I considered it a fail! Followed to the letter and they came out like biscuits rather than cookies. Should have used my proven one off the internet. They will still eat but are not what they say on the tin so to speak.

I made the tomato and onion sauce base this morning ready for tomorrow's tapas tea. A simple mix of chopped tomatoes, onions, smoked paprika and diced carrots to add a little bit of sweetness. It's been in the liquidiser and is cooling down to go in the fridge. Tomorrow will see half of it added to some meatballs with some pesto, the other half will be added to some chorizo and red wine. That's two dishes, I'll also be cooking prawns, with finely sliced jalapenos and garlic, fried in butter. Potatoes roasted with smoked lardons and sprinkled with feta, spicy chicken goujons (they'll be marinating overnight), creamy garlic mushrooms, I made some mini cottage pies a few days ago which need to be defrosted, I also have some garlic bread that'll need defrosting too. Various dips, olives, breadsticks and a green salad. A few bottles of Malbec and some 'pink fizzy wine' for my daughter-in-law (she has strange tastes). I've retrieved the hot plates from the cellar and bought some new tea lights for them, hopefully all should be good
