Watched the first two episodes of the latest BBC adaptation of Great Expectations, I'm quite enjoying it so far. The original storyline is still there with a few 'embellishments, I'm interested to see how it progresses.

We gave up after one and a half episodes, and it does not get good reviews.

We have been watching the history of building the canals on BBC4 , after Michael Portillo.I think it is a repeat. It was at Foulridge yesterday. I now understand why John Widdup moved from Rochdale to Barlick circa 1785-1790. What I can’t work out is why Martha Edmundson, sister and Uncle moved from Salterforth to Rochdale between 1780 and 1785. I presume it was employment but it is before the cotton mills in Rochdale. All suggestions will be gratefully received 😊

The dates are based on the marriage of Martha to John at St Chads Church Rochdale 1785
And their second child ( and later family) baptised at Barlick 1790
If you keep searching you will find it

We binged the whole three episodes of the Agatha Christie, "They should have asked Evans" which was on ITV. A decent enough "who done it" romp. :extrawink:

ITV have put a spoke in the wheel of Ubuntu users in that the app which gives you access to the new catch up service doesn't work on Ubuntu.....
Yesterday are doing Andrew Robert's series on the Great War again. Such a good series. Raises points I have never heard anywhere else.

Is the app not available on your smart TV? It is a Samsung isn't it?

How to Install ITVX on Samsung Smart TV

If you previously had ITV Hub installed on your Samsung Smart TV, all it requires is an update.
Every Samsung Smart TV model has auto-updates enabled out of the box, meaning you should already have access to the ITVX app as long as your TV is on and connected to your home network. If you don’t see it, here’s how you can manually update ITV Hub to ITVX on your Samsung Smart TV:

Press the Home button on your Samsung TV remote, and use the navigation keys to scroll to the “Featured” section.
Highlight the ITV Hub app, press the Enter button, and hold it until a context menu appears.
Go down the menu and select Update apps.
In the following window, click Select All, followed by the Update button.
Note it’ll not only replace ITV Hub with the new ITVX app but also update other apps on your Samsung Smart TV to their most recent versions.

Well that was an interesting half hour! I have been into menus I didn't even now existed and had to back out when it started to ask me to connect cables I don't know anything about.
I eventually got into the featured section but my plans fell apart when I couldn't find the old ITV app to update. So I have given up..... Thanks for trying but it hasn't worked. :biggrin2:

No sign of the ITVX app either?
It is a Samsung smart TV isn't it?
And there's no ITV Hub or ITVX app on the screen where you usually access your smart TV on demand services like All4 or YouTube?

I have an HD Samsung but it has no smart features at all. All my on demand is on the Humax box or cast via apps on my phone.

I watched the National at Aintree.... I thought the ITV commentator was getting slightly hysterical about the protestors who delayed the start of the race.....

Just a thought, how old is your Samsung TV?

The ITVX app is available on all current Samsung Smart TVs, including 2016 and newer Tizen models. Ahead of the arrival of ITVX, predecessor ITV Hub was removed from 2015 and earlier Samsung TV models. Older devices from other manufacturers were also impacted by the move, due to a change in the content protection used by ITV for its online service.

Can't remember but certainly before 2015 Kev so that's going to be the reason it vanished when I reloaded all the settings the other day. It was still there before I did that but didn't work.....

That'll do it, at least we got to the bottom of it. If you want to watch ITVX there are other options, an Amazon Firestick which just plugs into an HDMI socket on the TV and a power source. You do, however, need an Amazon account.
A Roku TV stick, pretty much the same thing but the requirement for a Roku account.
The latest Freesat box.
The 'sticks' are around £40 and the latest Freesat box is well into 3 figures.

I am impressed with the latest Firestick, it's very fast and very simple to set up. It does require an Amazon account but, unless you want access to the Prime shows and films, there's no subscription. I have decided to go with a Prime account, which I will setup once the current 30 day free trial ends. This will give me the Prime shows and films access, downloads on my Kindle and parcel delivery. I have the added bonus of a £2 a month discount with my O2 mobile phone rewards, I reckon all that is worth the £6.99 a month :good:
