Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
Susan tells me that duvet covers are passée now, the latest thing is coverless duvets. Has anyone had any experience with them?

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
No, and a stupid idea. It's a lot easier to wash and dry a cover than the duvet itself.

Agreed . . .
I've set my phone alarm for five to three - I will turn the phone off for the alarm test. The fact that I need to acknowledge it before my phone works again was the clinching factor.

Who was saying that?
If the phone is turned off, or set to 'aeroplane' mode it won't alert.

Went for the more practical test. Kept an eye on Lake Burwain for rubber boats. Not one all afternoon. No boats, no emergency therefore no mobile phone warning. New phone with Android 12 nothing. Two old phones Android 10, one on, one off, nothing. Perhaps they don't know that Colne and Barlick exist.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
Mine went off as I was in Barlick at 3pm, if I'd been in Foulridge it wouldn't as I have no mobile signal here. Just in case anyone wants to know, it came as a SMS message and looks like this

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
See THIS BBC Report which I fear is the start of a tsunami of propaganda that will engulf us until Chuck and Camshaft are crowned.
People watching the Coronation will be invited to join a "chorus of millions" to swear allegiance to the King and his heirs, organisers say.
Include me out. The fact that this can be even contemplated depresses me. What does it say about a nation which 'swears allegiance' to an adulterer with another adulterer as his consort. This quite apart from my aversion to a system that depends on spurious 'ancient tradition' and confers unearned privilege on the incumbents.
Much is made of the religious aspects of the Coronation and its links with state religion. How does this square with faithlessness in marriage? I think I must be old-fashioned. The modern world seems to accept this as normal.
(For a genuine sick-making experience listen to 'Profile' on R4 TX at 05:45 this morning.)

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
On the coronation we are told ad nauseam to the point of boredom that tradition must be upheld. Precedence is the name of the game whatever we did in the past we must continue to do in the future but on the odd occasion where there doesn't appear to be a precedent then invent one. Charles is following the age old adage of 'when facts change then my opinion changes'. Like the Terminator movie when the villain has been blow to pieces or as in Charles case to be shown as a fraud then it morphs into a different form to start life all over again. The King is dead, long live the King.

See also the pantomime of shifting a 335lb stone from Scotland to shove under the throne specially built to accept it.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
Didn't it get stolen and returned to Scotland for a time a long time ago? Can't have been easy to lift.
The gruesome, woke, detail of the coronation is slowly being revealed with only a week to go. Apathy is breaking out all over - or in the case of one family member unexpected outright hostility. All boxes will be mercilessly ticked.
"The congregation gathered for the crowning of the King and Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey will hear three Celtic languages – Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic – alongside English. "
Simon Webb pointed out recently that there are more Urdu speakers in Scotland now than Scots Gaelic. The King is missing a trick here -the Latin Anthem could easily be translated and sung in that language.
Did I read that 'Queen' Camilla's ex husband is invited - Mr Andrew Parker Bowles "Cuckold to the Crown" (by appointment). That's all very liberal and civilised. This is worth a look Andrew Parker Bowles
Apart from the Catholic Church's strict interpretation of marriage rules - (remember Henry VIII ) which killed the affair with Princess Anne, we could have a very complex seating plan indeed.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
You do right to highlight Andrew Parker Bowles David. What a family! Rivalled of course by John Spencer. See THIS Wiki biog and take note of the family history reference to him hitting his wife.
Not a word of any of this in the sycophantic coverage of coronation matters on BBC R4.
The thing that always intrigues me is that the late queen and her mother knew all this and much more and must have made some very delicate decisions at times about who was acceptable and who wasn't.....

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
New law - starts tomorrow - that's handy for Saturday's Coronation. Purely coincidental they say. . . .
The new law, given royal assent by Charles on Tuesday, means that from Wednesday:
Protesters who block roads, airports and railways could face 12 months behind bars.
Anyone locking on to others, objects or buildings could go to prison for six months and face an unlimited fine.
Police will be able to head off disruption by stopping and searching protesters if they suspect they are setting out to cause chaos.
A Home Office source added that the letter sent to 'Republic' was meant to inform, not intimidate.
Naturlich. . .

I noted Princess Anne saying yesterday that the monarchy was still relevant and a calming and stable influence on the country. Well she would say that wouldn't she?

The Seiko watch arrived yesterday, I'm impressed. Apart from a very small mark on the clasp it could be brand new

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
The airwaves are of course full of what's happening in London.
I note that the order of service has been tweaked to remove the allegiance problem. Interesting that the attempt to blame it all on Canterbury seems to have been abandoned. It is now being admitted that it was a 'mis-step'.

Re: 'Owt else or Any Other Business
They do start these things early don't they? I was still in bed (as usual, I combine the first and second sleep) when I heard on the radio
""Vivat regina Camilla" !!
Thought it might be a bad dream - but no - it has happened.
Later I switched on the TV - to find that minstrelsy is alive and well in Westminster, Alleluia and was the first 'turn' really a fully paid up HIndu, reading from the Holy Gospel?
At one level it's all the most magnificent tradition and pageantry (though it looks as though he didn't go for the second fitting of his gold jacket)- whilst at another it's a load of old tosh.
