WHAT DID WE HAVE FOR TEA?

Literally -for tea I had a cup of Soursop Tea It's a long story and you don't deserve further punishment - but it falls into the category of "don't knock it till you've tried it". Surprisingly I quite liked it. There's Raspberry and Passion Fruit still to be tried.

It had the additional benefit of being a free gift when bought with some normal Ceylon black tea.

That sounds interesting, I quite like an unusual brew.

I found why the dealer was so generous - the fruity ones are on their sell by date. and I guess he'd have trouble selling them. I'm not at all bothered - as they are all in foil sealed wrapping and will last forever. I'm sorted for tea until Christmas.

Spooky - That's what I had too yesterday.

Roasted a whole chicken for the first time for ages. They've come down to a sensible (Aldi matched ) price now. Just £3.51 for a 'small' which is more than enough for several meals for me, and passes the Tripps Kuripot test. Forty minutes on each side in the Halogen oven.

I ordered my chicken and did veggie shopping in the Square yesterday. There is just enough of last week's cooking left for today. Chicken and veggies three times a day suits me. (90% veggies actually....)

The last of the chicken and veggies extended with frozen peas and for dinner and tea, frozen battered mackerel. I cooked most of my veggies and will cook the rest after I have roasted my chicken today.

I have made turkey doner kebab this morning. Turkey mince, onions, garlic, smoked paprika, oregano, cinnamon, salt and pepper into the food processor and blitzed it all together. Lined a square pot with tin foil and pressed the mixture in, lifted it out of the pot with the foil and wrapped it tightly in a bit more foul. 25 mins in the pressure cooker and it's now cooling for tea.
20 mins in the air fryer, thinly sliced and served in wholemeal pitta with iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber and a bit of mayo. Hopefully it'll taste as good as it smells

I am going to make some chicken balls. Chicken, jalapeños, parsley, red onion, cheese, garlic, salt, pepper and egg. Formed and then cooked in the air fryer. I think I will have them with pasta and a bit of sauce, flavour yet to be decided.

Agreed, tomato sauce could kill all those lovely flavours...

I agree. I find that a dash of cream improves almost everything, which is probably why my weight is up so much this year.

The word 'Creamola' wouldn't go out of my head today. Seems it's a canned fizzy drink. Not in my memory it isn't. I had it down as a sort of enhanced custard from a long time ago. Seems it's not made any more, but it was essentially custard, augmented by the addition of rice flour.

Now there's a challenge.

I powdered some rice as best I could - should really have worn safety goggles - and add it as per the recipe. Recipes are widely available on the web. The result was eatable but the rice was a bit gritty. Next time I'll cook it first then liquidise it.

It actually reminded me of a dish I used to make with semolina, first boiled, then I mixed in an egg, and baked it in the oven. That was good.

PS - where do you stop with enhanced custard? It's so easy to make in a meecrowarvey as Nigella calls it. Perhaps add crushed ginger biscuits or trifle sponges or . . . . . . The just chop up a banana and off you go.

I think Creamola Foam was the drink, and came from Scotland. I'd never heard of it.

This is the thing I mean Creamolaand the kilt on the packaging seems to indicate that Scotland is to blame again.

The weekend is dragging - I'd better stay away from eBay.

We enjoyed a packet of Butterscotch Angel Delight last week, Colin has gone 60s retro in his search for food he can digest easily!

I used to make a 'trifle' with chocolate Angel Delight, a chocolate Swiss Roll and a can of mandarins.
Sliced Swiss Roll in a dish, pour over the juice from the mandarins, Angel Delight on next and then decorate with the mandarins. A glug of brandy for the adult version

I'm doing cod steaks with a lemon panko topping along with roasted little red spuds and asparagus.

I'm being strictly conventional and sticking to my chicken and veggies.
(I dreamed last night about making sweet corn chips. I think that was a mental nudge.)

Chicken meatballs turned out fine although I think I went slightly overboard on the Jalapeños, they certainly have a bit of bite but not overwhelming. The recipe called for two including seeds but I only had pre sliced ones so had to estimate. I had to swap out red onion for brown which also increased the bite a bit, I could have sworn we had some salad onions, oh well. I have scored them a hit, I had four last night with pasta and six left over. Three into the freezer and three for a quick easy tea tonight as we are the hospital this afternoon.

Oh I made sauce from chicken stock with a dash of tomato paste, worked well with the combo.
