Kev has it right. How the hell did you know that? I wouldn't have got it if I hadn't bought one and found it was useless. If anyone wants it, all they have to do is call in and they can have it!

This lives in the shed and fulfils a very useful purpose, it's used every day. However this wasn't its original function and that's what I want to know. What did it start out in life as..... (Probably over a century ago....)

Sorry no. (Although the use I put it to is exactly that function, I use it for reading the fine graduations on scales....)
It started life in a household object about 100 years ago. What I am after is what that object was. Like other simple objects it's so obvious it's invisible!

Yes, that';s what I use it for Cathy but what did it start out in life as a century ago? What can you think of in the house in those days that needed an adjustable lens?
