Stanley there were hundreds of people above the viaduct and where you took this picture. They were like swarms of ants. We have been to this region several times but never done this part of the train route before.

I shan't be going in the shed today, I am still feeling the effects of the jabs and today is a meat cooking day. I shall prepare my chicken and get it in the oven instead of engineering..... Later I shall start my pork belly off on its long slow cook.
That's a chicken with 2lbs of hot and spicy wings for stuffing and a piece of belly pork. How a bloke can eat all that in a week and not put weight on is a miracle!

Later at 06:15. I've been busy..... The chicken is in the oven with it's spices and veggies. The Belly pork is cut into chunks and is in the slow cooker with all its accompanying delights and my breakfast is warming in the microwave.
No shed but I don't feel guilty!

Morning

It was a wet drive back to Edinburgh yesterday but once here the sun was shining. On the way we stopped at the Falkirk Wheel and we were so lucky. The driver got lost so we arrived later than expected which meant we actually saw a boat being moved from one canal to the other. If we had been on time we would have missed it. The evening meal which included several bottles of wine per table was the best meal we have had all week. We were not impressed with the meals at Glencoe, very basic in both quantity and choice. The entertainment last night was good including a piper and dancer and it was well after 10.00 when it finished.

Today we shall breakfast and then catch our train home via York and Manchester. I think it will be late afternoon when we are back. This evening is u3a wine tasting so little time to cook. Tea will be a take away pizza I think as it will be the fastest to get . Its been a busy and quite exhausting week but an incredibly good holiday. Have a good day all

I'm so glad you have had a good time Sue. You both deserved it!
I am back up and dealing with my chicken after two hours second sleep. We have a gloomy morning and cold rain but I have a cure for that..... stay inside in the warm!

Morning

Well we got back home about 4.30pm. Our train from Edinburgh left a few minutes late and got later and later such that we missed our connection at York though we managed to catch the next one 40 minutes later and arrived at Manchester in plenty of time to catch a direct train to Rochdale arriving home just 20 minutes later than expected. The evening passed quickly with unpacking , zoom u3a wine tasting at 7 , and the washer churning away. By the time we came to bed all but the last load of washing was done and will be ironed this morning.

So today ironing, plus a visit from Claire who is bringing Briony's birthday present. Bob is going to a model engineering event in Warwick next week so will deliver the birthday presents to Coventry whilst he is down there. They are all in Cambridge for a big swimming competition so Bob can smuggle the presents into the house whilst they are away. Bs birthday is not till early November. Not sure of the forecast today but I shall be busy. Have a good day all.

Morning Sue, like us you will probably have a bright dry cold day!

A good solid hour this morning making the eccentric as the first blow in making the valve train. As you can see I have sammed up the various components and will have a look at fettling castings tomorrow. Right now I am focussed on breakfast.
One thing that struck me this morning is that I am definitely shrinking! I had to get a buffet to be able to reach the top row of drawers in my Taps and dies cabinet!

I start the new week with all my meat and veggies cooked..... and we are promised that the weather will warm up a bit from the unseasonably cold spell we have been enduring up here! I shall be in the shed at 06:00 working on my valve train. There is no rain in the forecast so it looks as if a walk is on later in the morning. Apart from that there is nothing on my social calendar!

Good progress this morning on the eccentric strap. An hour of careful milling and sanding and we are ready for the next stages tomorrow. But for now the focus is on breakfast!

Morning

Busy day yesterday ironing and sorting out my Winter clothes. Today is French at Haslingden so have to be out prompt to get there for 9.30. This afternoon is flu and covid jabs, and either today or tomorrow we choose our new glasses. I also have to phone the bank as my paypal payments have been stopped and I have had a message from the bank re possible fraudulent activity since Friday. My paypal account is ok but have not had time to check my bank account . Its all a bit worrying

Have a good day, cold and sunny at the moment

Morning Sue.... I hope your suspicions are wrong and that the bank account is all right..... I am back up after a good second sleep and considering a walk in the sunshine..... It seems we are very lucky here, the world south of Manchester is soggy so they tell us.....

Bank account ok. The card was stopped for two reasons. Firstly a routine monthly payment to a french conversation site was not recognised. I was told it sometimes happens and secondly I had tried to buy an app from the apple store but its name and country of origin were not recognised. I did not like the latter either after it was read back to me so will not be re buying the app . All is now reinstated .

Glad to hear it Sue, good to know that your bank is being vigilant.
I shall be in the shed as usual at 06:00 doing useful things to my eccentric strap.... After that it looks as though I can have an overcast but dry walk and there is nothing pressing on my social calendar so an easy day looking after myself. Nowadays that seems to involve a dad nap at dinnertime.... A sign of old age I suppose but it doesn't worry me, I enjoy it!

More work on the eccentric strap. Some hand work with a file to refine the overall finish. The faces of the lugs where the bolts are to be installed cut flat and deep enough for the bolt heads and the nuts. Witness marks put on one face so that orientation can be correct when installing the bolts. Then drilled for the bolts and sawn in two with a small slitting saw to ensure tidy cutting. Then fitting the bolts and finally back under the pillar drill to drill the oil hole in the strap. Now for breakfast.

Morning

Woke late, back to darker mornings, I think. I have no side effects , as usual, from my double vaccination apart from both arms being sensitive but thankfully not swollen as previously. Unless of course that is the reason for oversleeping. Having missed vaccination morning at the surgery we went to the local pharmacist which was quiet and very efficient. Whilst there I sought advice from the pharmacist about my lingering sinusitis so she has prescribed a steroid nasal spray. If that doesn’t work it will be a GP visit having tried every over the counter remedy plus daily steam inhalations.

This morning Bob is collecting something he has bought on ebay from Batley so I am going with him for the outing. This afternoon will be sewing and this evening pilates and yoga at the studio. Have a good day all

I had it for a few weeks after a bout of COVID, ended up with a course of ABs and a steroid nose spray. It cleared up after a few days.

I've had a walk and a sit on traffic duty. Overcast and that wind certainly has a chill factor of -3C! It felt cold on the back of my neck but we'd better not complain, at least it's dry..... :biggrin2:

Morning

I was a bit wiped out yesterday, not sure if it was the vaccination or sinusitis ( probably a combination) so after an afternoon sewing I did not go to pilates as my head was banging. This morning is the hairdressers and its raining as it nearly always does when I go there, this afternoon we are going to see Wendy and Keith. Keith is auditing the model engineers accounts for Bob I shall go for a cuppa and a chat with Wendy. If I feel up to it I shall do zoom pilates at 6.30 pm.

Have a good day all
