I know people say they are only pigeons, but I really like their different coloured markings and jewel coloured neckbands.
We have lots of them around here. In the last few days, they have discovered the rough patch I keep for all the birds. They all love it.

There's a rare bird (for this time of year) spotted on the lower Res at Foulridge.

I didn't see it on my walk around the reservoir yesterday, but I did see a number of twitchers in camouflage with huge cameras. I spoke to a nice chap, uncamouflaged but carrying a camera, who thought the twitchers were driving the hoopoe away as they were very obviously walking on the shore shouting to each other and waving their arms around.

Twitching is a strange compulsion isn't it. The important thing is that the bird was there!

No, I just make sure there's water left out as it's been so dry. We get various visitors

When deer come for a drink they sure empty those bowls heh

Good Lad Mick!
You're following a very old tradition providing water for the animals. Archaeologists suspect that improving water supplies and maintaining them so that animals came to drink and therefore could be caught/killed for food was how humans first started to gather in permanent settlements...... :biggrin2:

Nice to see a couple of local ducks early this morning, going for a waddle in my court.
They don’t often come this far. The duck pond is a 5 minute walk away. 😊

When walking through the town park last week we saw a squirrel chase a rat. The rat got away because it was faster but the squirrel jumped onto a tree trunk and screeched at it. I'm sure it was saying `and don't come back!!!'

That was a good sighting! Yes, squirrels can be aggressive little sods! You surprise me by saying the squirrel was slower than the rat....

Possibly the squirrel was more intent on warning its mates than having a Mexican stand-off with the rat!
