Kev has got it. It's a temperature gauge for monitoring a dish of developer.
Now we need another object.

Well done Tom, exactly right. Back in the day high pressure water pipes were made by making a collar on one end of a cast iron pipe. The plain end of the next pipe was forced in and the collar filled with lead wool which was pounded down using the caulking iron to make a solid seal.
Next one?
(Lost technology.... One very popular way of sealing the joints in cast iron pipes was by creating a 'rust setting joint'. The joint between the spigot and collar was sealed at the base with a caulking of lead wool and then the joint was filled with a paste made of cast iron borings and Sal-Ammoniac. This mixture rusted and swelled and made a permanent joint.)

Forgot to look yesterday, sorry. Kev has it right it's a tap or valve re-seating tool. Very old now probably over 100 years but still useful.

That could be right Kev but I can't say. What I can say is that you are close enough. Well done! This one was the bearing from the hinge on a vehicle door.
