Offices and some other departments. The offices were panelled throughout in very fine oak. I often wondered where it ended up.



The Co-op ballroom and other facilities like the bakery were in the older Co-op building on Cooperative Street. No point duplicating them in the new building.

There was a large function room upstairs with kitchens that certainly in the mid 1950's supplied meals at lunchtime - both eat in and takeaway. If you wanted takeaway it was bring your own plates - 2 one to cover the meal up to keep it warm whilst walking home. I seem to remember that this room was also a ballroom with a sprung floor but I may be wrong. Nolic

The whole of the left hand side of Cooperative street was built by the Co-op. The nearest end of the building was a Cooperative shop before the railway was built which in effect cut the street off from the town centre. Despite this the Society developed the site, the middle section was the bakery and the end was a large meeting room and facilities. I think Nolic is right and it was a sprung floor. As time went on it became a squash court and in the latter days the Mayfair School of Dancing. The old shop is a private residence and the rest of the block has been converted to flats.

This frame, made by Bracewell's Foundry at Burnley was made to support a rain water collection tank in the days before there was a public water supply (c.1890 onwards). This was in 1982, it went when the building was renovated. It was on the end of what is now the health centre.

2nd house still has a hedge, 3rd house still has a porch on it, chimney pots, bollards blocking the ginnell, couple of extra cars. Don't look to have changed much...

A composite image of The Commercial/The Barlick/The Fountain pub/bistro with Owd Gormless centre stage.

Impossible to be 100% sure but it looks like my dad in the picture (2nd left) of the guy with a bicycle. His height, hair, raincoat and bike all tally with my memories of him.

Had to use an image from my Photobucket account as for some reason any photo I post comes out postage stamp size on here (even using the techniques so patiently & thoroughly described by forum members).

I’ve tried with Gallery pics in the past and even though I’ve stipulated a larger display size they still come out tiny. I’m guessing and accepting that it must be a browser issue.

Toothing stones on the end of a Rainhall Road terrace in 1982. Ready for the next extension of the row which never came after WW1 stopped building in the town.

I shame to say I can't remember where this is, I suspect somewhere down the Long Ing area. A good example of a gable end ready for the next build with flues and toothing stones already in place. Taken in 1980.

It's on Earby Road, Salterforth but I think it is called Park Avenue.
