MEDICAL MATTERS
Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Stanley, your wound looks good. Our bodies are amazing things.
Still think you should have had it looked at, even by the chemist.

I know I'm in my own little world, but it's OK... they know me here.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Cathy, I might know more about healing wounds than they do.... God knows I have dealt with plenty of them in the last 90 years!

It’s looking good Stanley, but perhaps cover it when you are in your shed.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
A very efficient service over here in Preston, I've had pics of the backs of my eyes done and measured for the replacement lenses. Just waiting for a chat with an opthalmic surgeon and I'm done with the pre op
And a bit later, May 6th appointment for the right eye. Can't fault the service.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I wonder if you'll experience the same change I noted when I went from Kodachrome colours to Ektachrome after the replacement lens went in.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Popped out today to my Chemist to get my Flu and COVID Vaccinations.
A bit different this time , the nurse didn’t do a quick clean of the injection site, and afterwards she didn’t put a plaster on the site.
And normally they say to sit in the waiting room for 5 - 10 minutes after being injected.
Today she said I could go straight away, but that I could return if I wasn’t feeling well.
It’s always been a very streamlined thing to do, but today it was like ‘a blink’. “Oh, oh OK , Thanks. Bye”

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I have heard some bad reports about after effects from the current Spring Covid booster and have decided that I will ignore it and rely on the winter booster and Flu jab.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Pulled my back at the gym this morning. Was perfectly OK until the last exercise which was a hip thrust with about 40K on my lap. Done that OK without a problem before! Anyway, painful mobility at the moment, sitting and standing back up particularly challenging.
Doubt if I could get in the car to drive so have had to withdraw from tonight's meal and cheque presentation from the Rotary Club at the Tempest for Bosom Friends. Sally will attend with one of our volunteers Jennifer. I will also cancel my EVO class at the gym tomorrow and I definitely wont be carting my fishing kit anywhere this weekend! Hopefully I will be back up and running by Monday, plan B, make no plans! Grrr...

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
Hard luck Ian!
Some of you might remember that I have been visited by an itch over the last few months and also Noted that there have been a lot of complaints to doctors, it appears that itches are quite common and nobody is sure what is causing them.
I think I've found the reason for mine! I had been using Imperial Leather soap for years and hadn't realised that since Cusson's sold the brand it is no longer made in the UK, the formulation has changed and it can no longer be described as soap! It is now a chemical detergent and the suspicion is that it can cause permanent damage and result in an itch. This is disputed but I decided to change to a true soap and am using Fairy domestic soap.
I'm not making any claims but I am reporting that I have lost the itch and am quietly recovering from the extreme sensitivity I was experiencing. This may of course be down to something else entirely but I thought it was worth reporting.....

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
My back has improved a bit after a nights sleep. "Slowly, slowly catchy monkey " comes to mind. Moving is easier today but its still there. Glad I cancelled my gym this morning, I think I would have been about as much good as a chocolate teapot!
On the Imperial Leather issue, I wonder if it can still be used as an temperature indicator for bending aluminium? I somehow doubt that.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
I was fed the Imperial Leather (and other soaps), knocking video as well. I dismissed it as clickbait - in the category of "you are boiling your eggs all wrong".
The parent company which is multi national, is PZ Cussons and the British HQ is in Manchester. They have strong connections with Nigeria - in fact I remember when the whole profitability of the company depended on the value of the Nigerian currency.
I use no soap other than Imperial Leather, and I have no itch. There is a 'contact us.' link on their website, and I'd recommend anyone with concerns to send them an email and ask them what's going on. I won't as I have no issue.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
There's always Imperial Leather Gentle Care soap bars, similar price but supposedly better for sensitive skin. £2.25 for 4 bars at Superdrug.
The Co-op carries Imperial Leather Gentle Care Bar Soap (2 x 90g) for £1.60. It is a mild, dermatologist-tested soap enriched with a natural moisturizer designed for sensitive skin.

Re: MEDICAL MATTERS
As a ..by the way..
When I first graduated I set up and ran a bacteriology research lab for a company that made agricultural and industrial cleaners antiseptics and disinfectants. I was responsible for testing intended new products using the appropriate testing techniques . There were other sides to my role but not relevant here. The company was set up by a Mr Evans Old man Evans he was when I went there. It was based in Eccles and was run by his son Mr Derek … I know it sounds like a TV programme . Anyway as I understand it old Mr Evan invented the original perfume for Imperial Leather and sold the formula to Cussons. He used the money to set up his company in rented buildings in Eccles . He died when I was there about 1973/4. Just after I left to have our first born the company built a new factory near Walton Summit. The company made the disinfectant that was used to disinfect the moon rocks after the moon landing of 1969
The company is now run by the next generation who was just 7 when I worked there. Contrary to present day H&S I often used to entertain the youngster looking at blue cheese mould down the microscope

I note that the last lot I bought was a pack 6 bars for £2.99 from Home bargains.
Here 's the company's version of the history of the firm.
