Will do Comrade. He showed me a maths problem to do with flow dynamics that he has to solve. He spent 10 minutes just trying to explain the symbols used to me then he gave up frustrated at my total failure to grasp anything he was saying!! He loves what he's doing and is talking about doing a masters degree. Nolic

Reminds me of my lad Dan. He did a degree in maths at Warwick. He came home one break with a plug chain round his neck with credit card sized cards on. When I asked what they were about he said they were the mathematical constants that he had to learn I had a look and like you could not even get my head around the symbols let alone understand what they were supposed to do. I did 5 years of Calcs and Principles at college as part of my electronics City and Guilds but this was like looking at an alien language!

A Resource List of Mathematical Constants

Well done your Dan.

I note in the link. " Glaisher-Kinkelin constant: Denotes that the A in a certain equation that relates to the Barnes G-function and the K-function. Any claims Tizer?

They are another breed these advanced mathematicians - I read Fermats Last Thoerem. As far as I could understand it - the guy thought he had solved it, went public, and was proved wrong. He then went away and tried for a further seven years until he finally cracked it. I think most of them are on the "spectrum" somewhere.

Still gardening. I was clearing the pumpkin plants yesterday when I became aware that there were three pumpkins hanging above me. You have to look carefully for the one on the stables roof.
Last visit I found two in the hedge amongst the blackberries!

Be kind to yourself Moh after the jab. I had a reaction to mine this year, almost like a slight cold that lasted ten days.

I didn't make much progress in my search, but thoroughly enjoyed looking. The Registry is an amazing resource, just the fact that you can look through volumes written in the early 18thC is good enough for me! I was trying to discover when Jonas Shaw, who left this farm to his nephew in 1776, had come into possession of it. I did find one deed registered in his name but he was buying Kayfield farm and I think, though it was a little hard to read " a croft in Barnoldswick called Hemp Butts".

Lovely cross reference to Hemp Butts.

This afternoon, I'm going to be Mr Micawber during Barlick's Dickens of a Do.

David I feel I have a personal connection to Hemp Butts after the attempt we made to discover it's whereabouts earlier this year.
