It would appear that the Iron Lady has indeed died as a result of a stroke. Whatever your beliefs, she did her best. Those who didn't like her will have a field day, those who did will just get on with it, life goes on.

Every time I think of Thatcher I think of three things.
She was a trail blazer ( in terms of women striving to reach the glass ceiling)
She was trapped in an era and yet her posh voice was from a former era! ( in other words she talked like she had toffee sticking her top teeth to her bottom teeth)
The puppets they made of her ( many of them that we're all chin and nose and unruly hair) were magnificent. They will live on.

But why a funeral with military honours she never served in the forces? Nolic

No but she did scrap school milk for all children over 7 years old when she was Education Secretary.

She did kind of play at soldiers against the recommendation of most of her colleagues in government by committing the country to war in the Falklands. This ultimately led to the death of 907 combatants (including a few civilians killed by "friendly fire") with a further 2665 non fatal casualties from the conflict. The legacy of this event has further claimed the lives of over 250 British veterans and an estimated 350 - 500 Argentinian veterans who have since committed suicide.

She systematically sold off our Nationalised industries into the private sector and decimated the manufacturing infrastructure blighting hundreds of communities around the country.

Let everyone buy their council houses without any due regard to replacing the lost housing stock in public ownership. This decision is still impacting the country and has now ultimately led to the so called "bedroom tax".

There are lots more to mention but these alone are quite sufficient for a legacy!

Not indoctrinated by Disney from an early age here in the UK. Not really a force here until the advent of satellite TV by which time she was no longer in the gang. Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake are the products of the club most quoted nowadays.

Most pertinent comment yet regarding St. Maggie's funeral "Lets privatise her funeral. Put it out to competitive tender and accept the cheapest bid. After all its what she would have wanted". Ken Loach. Nolic

Frankie Avalon was a pop singer in the 1960s with a string of hits in the charts at that time.

Thank you Sue. Frankly I am appalled that a community site such as this should be a platform for the outpourings of denigration upon someone who has passed away. Working hard on a project that affects this town, I deal on a daily basis with interested parties from all political persuasions, and I can add now that if anyone, whoever they are, attempt to influence what we are trying to achieve due to political beliefs or deep seated personal grievances, I will pull out. Enough is enough, this is not bloody Hillsborough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
