Robert Peston on the Today programme, when asked about the real cause of the problem in Cyprus:
"The Eurozone has been incompetent."
This is getting to the nub of the matter. It's all very well saying the Cypriot government and Cypriot people have allowed their banks to get too big but ultimately the EU has been incompetent in allowing a member of its currency union to get into this bad state and should take the blame.

Asked about the future of the Eurozone, Peston said: "There is no sign of the Eurozone having the structures and systems in place to ensure its survival."

I wonder if they meant to say "Pope Francis is a humble man who believes he is fallible"? I'm increasingly seeing, in print, people mistakenly using the opposite word to the one they mean. Either a lack of understanding of the language or failure to check what they write, excusable here but not in newspapers, magazines and respectable web sites.

Tiz, I think that what was being referred to is the Doctrine of Papal Infallibility. Reinforced as recently as 2005 by Benedict who asserted that in certain situations the Pope is still infallible as he conveys directly God's message. (LINK) Hardly a sign of humility.

Couldn't agree more Tiz, the reason why I avoid all 'social networking' sites. They have their uses of course but give the LCD full reign to inflict their dreadful influence protected by anonymity. Poison pen letters were bad enough but slowed down by the speed of delivery!

The link , I feel , needs updating with indeed the evidence of the 30year release of information. Although MT took the acceptance of the action after it occurred ( I think because she thought it generally politically favoured her ) , my understanding is that the attacking commander in the area took the decision , Nelson Style , without specific referral back to Whitehall , using his judgement. At the time I blamed MT for the action and agreed with Diane Gould's assesments , indeed the critism of communication still holds , but I revised my blame of MT to one of taking all the 'glory' for the action, the rights and wrongs of which could be debated elsewhere. On that day , MT was either well briefed or was truly good at political side step, cover up and change subject.
