Will do.
He is in good spirits and has asked me to get a bottle of Stout and a bottle of Lemonade in the fridge for when he gets home. He is not a big drinker, but loves a small glass of Stout and Lemonade.
Apparently his cardiologist will only be assisting tomorrow. Because it is expected to be difficult they have got the top guy in the state to do the op.

Didn't know you had stout in Australia! And I've never had stout & lemonade. Perhaps you need to put lemonade in Australian stout to make it taste OK?

Stout was always seen as a very nutritious drink, hence the old saying "There's a baby in every bottle". Very good for nursing mothers and in 1954 when I was in a military hospital we were issued with a bottle of Guinness every evening (Teetotallers had Ovaltine and digestive biscuits). I've drunk stout and lemonade in summer but in winter a favourite to warm you up was Guinness and Port. Remember Mackeson's Oatmeal Stout? Massey's Burnley brewery made a good stout and for years my favourite was Black and Tan, stout and bitter half and half.

When I was at Uni and attended the blood donors in Southampton one of the after donation drinks on offer was a small Guinness. Nolic

Well, whatever you favourite tipple, raise a glass for Dave!
He has just come out of the op...and so far is doing fine. Three surgeons. Three stents.( takes the total to six stents now)
Says he has "the headache from hell" at present, I expect it is all the drugs and should pass.
Phew...it has been a long and arduous day. Think we will all be in bed early tonight...

Good news Maz. It's a bit early to hit the booze, but :drinks2: cheers, and here's to a quick recovery.
I now have an image in my head of you, Dave and 3 top surgeons squashed into a hospital bed, all snoring away gently.....

Hope he is fine Maz and take care of yourself. Stanley I used to enjoy black velvet in my earlier years (Guinness with champagne) poor mans was with cider. Also some used to drink snake bite which was Guinness with bitter. Remember being on a corporate do and having black velvet for breakfast. Today will have to see how the weather is before deciding. Some very interesting drinks mentioned. I am taking notes.
Wendy...I have slept in some strange places...but never in a bed with more than one man.
I remember the night I slept in a hospital baby's cot, with my head in an oxygen tent, trying to soothe my little boy when he was distressed with severe Croup.

Eileen, I'd forgotten Black Velvet! Maz, look after yourself and have a couple of Guinness before going to bed. But remember, there's a baby in every bottle.
I've just remembered Ernie Roberts telling me about the long recuperative process after he got Black Water Fever in Burma. He was in Calderstones at one time and part of the treatment was a daily dose of champagne!

No Guinness in the house Stanley. Just as well...I love babies but think we have had enough significant events in our life lately.
Bought him some Cooper's Stout today though so that is chilling for him, along with the Lemonade.
I will have a glass of red with Homemade Pizza for dinner.

Afraid I drink real ale in pint pots and little else save for a bottle of good red at Sunday lunch, and the odd 'craft' beer and proper German lager in bottles from a specialist beer shop nearby. Actually, on reflection that seems like quite a variety! Oh well......

Today I am looking forward to the British and Irish Lions rugby union team's first Test Match of the tour tomorrow, down under in Brisbane against the Australians. I am having what I call serious PMT, or Pre-Match Tension.

I'm also hoping it doesn't rain in Birmingham Sunday and wash out the cricket.....

In 1970 I spent two nights in hospital, after having meccano fitted to a broken leg it was a pleasant surprise to be offered a bottle of stout in the evening. does any one know when the practice was stopped. Like Stanley I also enjoyed a black and tan, this weekend I shall buy the makings and try once more.

Nothing in particular.... Thinking about Dave in hospital and my own insignificant matters of the dentist and the eye surgeon next week. Might have a small Lagavulin as a bracer!

Today I shall be taking it easy as yesterday when Dave went fishing I cleaned the seats in the van and put them outside to dry as it was a good drying day with the sun and wind. The stuff I used to clean is from the UK upolstery and carpet cleaner from Astonish only 99p for a bottle and it's really good Eileen
