No frost this morning and much of the packed snow has gone. Yippee!!!! Glass fallen to 30.3", overcast and a slight breeze from the west. Long may it continue!

No thanks Maz, in return I promise not to do the rain dance until requested. Much better underfoot where packed snow has gone but where it persists, like on the paths in Valley Gardens, it's deadly!

When we lived in Cumbria a friend taught me how to drive on sheet ice, it has stood me in good stead ever since, been up and down to Scotland on A1 and in and out of leeds and York quite happily in all this winter weather..great having the roads so quiet! One proviso, I don't drive before 11 or after 3. 30 ish..fifty cars went off a road I had driven down just a few hours after me, because the drivers went out in evening and early morning.

Mild weather during the coming week. There's a question mark over next weekend though. But this week will be better for getting around. Not a great deal of sunshine though.

Belle, good thinking. Unfortunately in my job I had to be out at those times and the worst conditions I ever encountered were then. Great experience but best avoided!
We can say the snow is gone in Barlick. Glass on 30.2" and trying to rise. No frost, dry underfoot, slight NW breeze bit it's not too cold. Could be a quiet day.

Back from walk, much better underfoot and despite the cool breeze, quite a pleasant morning. Birds singing well at 7am. Isn't it good to see the days lengthening!

Light at 7am, birds singing, no wind, no frost and good underfoot. I noted this morning that I'm walking better than at any time since Dec 22. Coughing put my back out, kicked the sciatica off and since it subsided I have had residual pain in my right leg and knee. Suspect the muscles tensed up and haven't quite in-knotted yet. Glass steady on 30.2" Dull but good weather and we're over half way though February. Things are looking good because apart from a chance of a slight frost this weekend, no bad weather in the longer range forecast.

What a lovely day today has been , I have been around town shopping and helped other half with a tree job then spent this afternoon in the allotment. I love being in the fresh air it does make you feel so much better. We spotted a honey bee on the snowdrops at the allotment and there was lots of pollen on the catkins , it fills one's hearrt with hope that spring is nearly upon us.

Dead right BB and Jack and I went up Letcliffe for the first time for yonks. Minimal pain and no painkillers, very pleased with my slow recovery from the Xmas cold and associated problems. Great view, very clear, full sun and very little wind. Must take me camera up if it's the same today. Oh, and wore summer coat over a sweater instead of the Crombie.
Glass nailed on 30.2" again and rock steady. Looks like another good day. One more thing for Wendy, wore shoes for all walks instead of wellies, now that's an improvement!

Back from our inspection of the town. not cold, light before 7am and the birds singing. Heavy clouds in the west but no rain yet and doesn't really feel like it. I have a feeling that winter has turned and we are on our way out of it towards Spring.

Colder weather on Saturday with a few Wintry showers over the hills and some sunshine. Sunny, dry and cold on Sunday. Milder next week.

We got the mizzle as well Moh in the afternoon. Glass has dropped back to 30" but it's dry and not windy. Feels a touch colder but I can't see anything beyond a frost. It is set to come mild again next week. I see the current fear is drought in Eastern regions because of the dry winter. I hope they don't all move up here where the water is!

Later... A pleasant walk in Valley Gardens and trip to the butcher's. Damp atmosphere but brighter now, looks like a good day. I forgot to mention that frost is inevitable this weekend because I got fed up with my hair last night and had a quick trot with number one setting on the clippers. Much better and I slept like a log. Problem is the Frost Queen will have been watching....

Moh, I always wear a hat, old-fashioned these days. I ring the changes from a Christy trilby to baseball hats.
Sue, the cloud came down here as well, I'll bet Doc was in the clouds.
Shipping forecast this morning was gales in all areas except the most Southerly. Light rain outside but clement. Glass has dropped below 29.5" but when it goes down like that it usually recovers equally quickly so it looks like a short sharp spell of wind and rain.

Our glass is 29.4 - rain has stopped and wind has dropped (Poetry!!) but it is very cloudy. Forecast of frost tonight - I saw some people with a trolley load of bedding plants at B & Q, hope they have somewhere to keep them warm.
