Upset day yesterday as I had visitors. I was in the middle of slowly frying a nice thick slice of smoked honey cured gammon when they arrived and I didn't get round to making the butty till they left by which time the residual heat in the pan had overcooked it! It was still good but thank God for me new teeth! It had to be chewed thoroughly! That meant I wasn't hungry at teatime so just had a couple of teacakes (bought for my visitors but not used). One with St Augur on and the other with apricot conserve. I'd got extra milk as well so that has gone into a bowl of porridge for dinner today.....

I made a Quiche, which we had with Salad for our evening meal.

Enjoyed a Banana Milkshake mid afternoon after painting two rooms. It was 34 degrees today, so a bit warm for running up and down the ladder with a paint roller.

Have guzzled about five tall glasses of water this evening...( probably due to the sugar in the milkshake, combined with the heat, combined with the exertion).
Have "paint pot grip pain" too. My hand feels like a claw after clutching the paint pot whilst cutting in.
I so love painting and am never happier than when up a ladder.

Porridge for dinner to get rid of surplus milk. Built a sausage, onion, baked beans, tomato and garlic Jobby and popped it on the stove to cook slowly. Nice butty for tea with three of the sausage and some of the beans.

I mullered a joint of beef in the slow cooker yesterday, it tasted lovely but totally failed on the carving front; on the other hand, it didn't need any extra chewing.
Measure with a micrometer, mark with a pencil, cut with an axe.

I'll bet it didn't need carving! And all the juices were in the gravy. I love slow cooking.....

Had the sausage gravy on chips for dinner and then fished the last three sausages out and had them on a butty for tea. I don't know what the chemistry is but tomatoes, olive oil, vinegar and sugar combine to make a lovely thick gravy.

Pasta, Cauliflower and Red Salmon, with a Cheese and Herb Sauce ( parsley, chives, black pepper, piri-piri and tarragon)

Pie and peas for dinner and fish finger butty for tea. Butcher's day tomorrow, Brown's were closed for a week for essential repairs to the shop floor.

I was thronged at dinner time so just had two meat pies. Fish finger butty with poached eggs on top for tea.

If made badly it becomes green wallpaper paste....
Had chicken butties X two yesterday. I got half a spit roasted chicken from Kath. The second one was made more exciting by using the onions that had been cooking slowly on the stove under a nice piece of well-hung braising steak.

Burgers cooked in the onion gravy from the steak. One of them plus an egg in a butty for dinner. Scones and Eccles cakes for tea....

Bacon and fried tomato butty for dinner. I got a handful of tomatoes so I made the others into a tomato and garlic relish. Had a cheese butty for tea with the relish, lovely grub!

Bacon Butty for dinner and a chip butty for tea. I made the chips how my mate Alan cooked them at the Old Library at Arisaig, cut them in wedges and boiled them first in very salty water for about ten minutes and then into the deep dripping. Lovely, I will have to do them like that all the time now!

I braised some silverside on onions and garlic and had some of that on a butty for dinner. Haslett butties for tea. Both on a small wholemeal loaf that Kath gave me because it was out of date.

I tipped the tomato relish in with what was left of the steak, onion and garlic and brought it to the boil, cooked some basmati rice and so had my dinner and tea with minimal effort.
