I agree with Gloria, didn't they use lead to make up the weight to an exact amount and then stamp it with the Weights and Measures seal?

Dead right both of you. If a weight has the lead seal it was made originally for commercial use as frequent inspection of weights was part of the Fair Trading legislation. Here are two pics of the ends of a 5ft cloth measure that was used in the Central Co-op building.

It looks as though it first went into service in 1887.

Anyone got the next one?

Grandson and youngest daughter are both 13 now, so they wouldn't thank you for that Glo!

But these are indeed children's designs; can anyone work out what they are for?

All I can see is that they are both asymmetric, are they for testing perception of images?

The aircraft designs are part of a set of drawings produced in a workshop for children a few years ago. Any flights of fancy as to what the event was they were produced for?

The answer is the children created designs for flags originally flown at a Barnoldswick Festival of Flight seven years ago. Two designs were chosen, one of a plane the other a butterfly, which were then used in making the flags. Here are some of the plane flags being flown in 2007.

Yes, it's a bell and unusually it was cast by William Roberts at Nelson. Question is, where was it hung?

In direct contrast to the snug fitting, cold weather Willie Warmer portrayed above this one could be it's Carribean counter-part designed for sunshine and balmy breezes?

It has a loop fastener similar to the bib of dungarees...where they hook onto the button on the shoulder strap.

Will try to remember that, Gloria.
