Alison made a quiche with new potatoes. I had a bag of pea wads and some cherrys from Chaudry's for dinner; Tom and Lucy blew a tenner at Cafe On The Square (well, I didn't get any change...).

Spooky Moh! I had a bacon butty for breakfast reinforced with fried tomatoes and onions with an egg broken on top and stirred in like an omelette. I had the last of the bacon with new potatoes and carrots for tea....

Maz sent me a pic of Bok Choy. They sell it at Chaudrey's but I didn't know the name. Will try it. I had some spuds and carrots left over so I had them for dinner with a black pudding and an egg. Beans on toast for tea with Cheese on toast to finish the loaf off and fill up.

Tempted by chips at tea time yesterday (time is getting tight to get the Beach set up...), but settled for veggie sausage casserole which I batch cooked and froze a couple of weeks ago. (Freezer will be ready for defrosting quite soon at this rate!)

Baked a loaf and boiled spuds and carrots. Spuds, carrots and peas for dinner with whey butter and fresh mint. Haslet butty for tea fortified with two boiled eggs.
Rather late in life I have discovered that if you put spuds and carrots on the stove, bring to a good boil for a minute or two and then turn the heat off and leave the pan on the hob, they cook slowly in the residual heat and cost less in leccy. I can't help wondering why it has taken me over 70 years to realise this!

I do the same thing with Brussel Sprouts, Stanley.
Grilled Beef Sausages tonight with Onion Gravy. ( they were rather expensive sausages...92% coarse ground Beef and possibly hand made by naked virgins...or at least I always use that phrase when paying through the nose for summat...call me a miser!) I managed one...Febby managed three. They were ok, but had to paper towel them twice to soak up the oil they oozed, which I do not find becoming in a sausage. I am so darn fussy...

An organic pig (et al) farm has opened up near us and I thought I'd check out their produce. I felt obliged to buy something and so bought their sausages, which were the cheapest thing in the shop - a mere $15 for 5 small sausages. They too were exceptionally fatty and in my opinion nowhere near as good as the chicken sausages I get from the chicken farm.

All the Melbournites out for a Sunday drive thought it was all fantastic and went out with arm loads. Call something organic .......

I like the naked virgins..... Maz, a really good sausage has surprisingly little fat in it. It all depends on how well the meat is trimmed before mincing.
Half the remainder of the spuds and carrots for dinner with two boiled eggs for protein. Haslet salad butty for tea.

( it's one of my 'mazzerisms', Stanley...and I use it quite a bit. How much!? Must have been hand made by naked virgins! Or in the case of an expensive car I might expand on that and say "lovingly polished by the pubic hair of naked virgins".)

Liz...bet you are like me and only get caught once. I don't mind paying a reasonable price for a reasonable product, and if I like something I will come back again. I was pleasantly surprised last week when we ordered some battered Australian King Prawns at a Fish and Chip Shop ( thinking mmmm...how good will they be at $1.60 each...). They were huge and plump and tasted magnificent and were so fresh. Positively delicious! As good as I have had in fancy pubs. Will be back for more of those when in the mood for a treat. ( it was my birthday)
It's the same with wine. You can get some really decent drops for under $10 a bottle. Our grown up kids can get quite snobby about wine ( but they are happy drinking ours if they don't see the label!).

Dinner yesterday was vegetarian, spuds, carrots, peas with whey butter and mint. Tea was a fish finger butty and I regret to say a whole cauliflower which I had steamed on top of another batch of spuds and carrots. I put whey butter on it while it was still on top of the hot drained spuds and carrots and it was so good I started nibbling on it. Fatal! It was delicious and short-lived!
As you can see from the pic above today's menu will include a rolled two shear joint pot-roasted on top of onions and garlic. All the liquid has come out of the meat and veg, none added. Not sure what the joint is, it's very lean and looks like rolled trimmed shoulder. Lovely smell in the kitchen....

Correct Marilyn. I've never been back. I agree about the wine too. I have a wine snob brother in law. I once served up a very cheap wine to him that he loved - because the label said 'made in France". We also gave him a dessert wine from Aldi and he didn't recognise that label and so was confused as to whether he should enjoy it.

I cut the pot roast meat into bite size chunks, added a tin of chopped tomatoes and a tin of tomato concentrate. Chucked some forozen peas in and then the spuds and carrots I had cooked the day before. Ended up with the first veggie stew of the Autumn! 2 X for dinner and tea, just small bowls. Cheese on toast for a filler after tea. Filled the fruit bowls up and had a lovely nectarine for pudding.

Soup that I made yesterday with Cheese and Chive Scones, for lunch.
Grilled Cheese and Tomato on Crusty Bread, for dinner.
So no cheese tomorrow...had our fill today.

I recall Mother saying Cheese eaten late at night can produce nightmares. Strangely enough, hubby had a nightmare last night ( prior to today's cheese)... I woke to hear him screaming out...and then a really strange thing happened just before dawn this morning when the TV in our bedroom turned itself on, stayed on for about 20 seconds, then turned itself off again. Have had the hooded monks in with burning Rosemary twigs to cleanse the room. I am just worried that with our cheese intake today...will tonight get any better...? Gulp...
