Posts like this will be invaluable in years to come. I find them fascinating.David Whipp wrote:I had a chat with the rig operators yesterday.
They are indeed testing ground conditions in advance of development. The survey provides information for the design of appropriate foundations and samples are taken for testing to check for any contamination that may need to be dealt with (standard requirement for a brownfield site).
They commented that they hadn't found anything unexpected and that contamination appeared to be minimal. They are hitting bedrock around 5 metres down.
With a larger rig, they can sometimes be testing as much as 60 metres below the surface.
Here's the Bankfield demolition yesterday. The water tank beyond the boiler house is beginning to be revealed.

Re: WHAT ATTRACTED YOUR ATTENTION TODAY?
How well I feel as I gradually move my clock forward and do less work to lessen the shock of a normal timetable next week.
The fact that when I dug into the papers I need to set up a Lasting Power of Attorney I found that I had bid £9,000 for a mill in Hebden Bridge.... I had forgotten that completely!
Cathy, THIS BBC report puts the death toll at over 80 this morning. The world has gone mad. You can bet a pound that someone somewhere is saying "Look what happens if you are in the EU" and in the long run that could be as damaging as terrorism.

Teaching students from Carleton College (Northfield, MN) at Keele University for 5 days with my old mate Martha..... We haven't done it for 15 years but the Regents asked us to do it one last time as we built up a bit of a reputation over the twenty years we did it annually. Looking forward to it, I love bright kids!
I shall be teaching a similar group to this one in 1986.

Dennis is almost back to his normal self, head up, cantering round the field and trying to get Sparky to play! I've just noticed him catching a toe on the ground occasionally but that's all. I'm wondering now if he may have had a mini stroke of some sort. I'm still weeping, but with relief!

Munsterlanders! I went to near Newark to have a look. I plan for the future and this may well be within the Julie plan for the future.

ARM Holdings being sold to the Japanese. One of Britain's business success stories. Originally Acorn Computers who developed the ARM technology based on the RISC platform. Current generation ARM processors power the Iphone platform and billions of other high end processor based systems. I used to repair the first ARM2 and second generation ARM3 and platform machines, (Archimedes) to component level.

Hi Cathy, thank you for the greetings, we have four daughters 2 in Ireland, 1 in England, and ! in Albany W A. she is the only one that wasn't here over the w /e, being in Ireland there were copious amounts of Guinness and other alcohol beverages consumed, as the daughter from England isn't going back till Saturday i'm afraid there will be more consumed, a good job i was born in a pub and started early and got used to the taste, my first purchased pint was when i was 14, the Friendship Inn, Glossop ,Robinsons dark mild 10 old p. per pint, , you could get 24 pints for a £ 1.00, paying a fiver a pint now.
