Back in the kitchen, Colin has begun to put the units together, starting with the run along the window wall, which includes the sink. He is currently contemplating the complexities involved in installing a Belfast sink...not onto 2 piles of bricks, but a fancy B&Q unit designed for the job....this could be a decision we live to regret! I'm keeping a low profile.....

I have a B&Q kitchen. I don't have a Belfast sink though I have a double bowl/drainer that fits into a corner, the first thing I did was to throw the instruction sheet in the bin as it was pretty useless...

The instructions were the main problem Kev, they stated the sink needed to protrude in front of the door frame, but the accompanying diagram showed it recessed....very confusing.

Instructions, manuals, book indexes...nobody seems to know how to write them these days (well, nobody but us sensible, well-trained OG folk! ). I don't often use the video facility on my camera and recently needed to know how to change a video setting. I couldn't see anything in the menu so I consulted the manual. Nothing under video in the index or contents listing. Eventually Mrs Tiz cracked the problem - they now call it `movies'. Until now my cameras have always had `video' never `movies'. But it would have been so easy to have put `video: see movies' in the index. Unfortunately it would require someone to use their brain to do that.

Same thing applies to report writing Tiz. These days they are loaded with McKinsey style management speak and are mostly gobbledegook. I once wrote a report for the CEO of the Littlewoods Home Shopping Group and he invited me for lunch at Liverpool to congratulate me. He said it was the most concise and accessible report he had ever seen. I offered to train his report writers but it never came to anything.....
If I had to fit a Belfast Sink it would be on a very firm base......
The kitchen is going to be superb Wendy, I can see that even at this stage. Lovely job......

Tell him he'll be fine, the units are the easy bit.

All mine were straightforward apart from the ones with soft close drawer units. You have to read the instructions very carefully or you can get the runners in the wrong pilot holes. If you have soft close read the carcass and the drawer unit instructions twice before assembly it can save you a lot of grief. Did you get a template for all the handles? I have one if you forgot.

Sign of a good man Wendy. Like me fretting about these bloody engine drawings..... Once he gets stuck in he'll be fine. When did he ever fail? Tell him Stanley says stop whingeing and get on with it!

The big problem is that all the plans were made and units bought two and a half years ago....he can't remember why he bought some of the bits! Progress was made yesterday...all the floor carcasses now built and in place.

Love the autumnal colours Wendy. You realise of course we all look and realise how shabby some of us are! Nice to see progress....
It just struck me that it's hard to realise this is an old farmhouse perched on a hill.......

We decided on wood effect base units rather than white, but the cupboard fronts and doors will be cream.

Oh, I think you can dare to dream Wendy. Solid new floor, plumbing sorted, cooker and sink back in, electrics well on their way. Its looking good and well on track for the home straight. It will be fantastic when its done.

We have Ivory doors and carcasses, I wasn't sure at first but we went for the doors without any paneling or moldings, they are an absolute doddle to keep clean with a quick wipe. Don't half brighten the kitchen as well. You didn't say if you wanted the handle template.

Yes please to the handle template Ian. Not sure if we will need it but better safe than sorry!
Today has been about fitting the built in electric oven, the oven housing isn't quite the size it should be.

No problem with the handle template but unfortunately I don't have one for the cooker. I'm sure Col will have a plan though.

We went for smooth doors too, so easy to wipe down and no ridges to build up difficult to get at debris.
