It was lovely and sunny here yesterday but today we are back to grey skies. Strange weather seems the High pressure is stuck in the Atlantic. Eileen

Stuck is the word Eileen. Glass still nailed on 29.5". Flafs are damp but cloud is broken and the only bright spot is that we seem to be esca[ping the worst of the showers here in Barlick. (Closer to heaven than Gloria)

Grey skies again but looks like sun may break through ever the optimist. Who needs science when you can be an optimist

Scattered showers yesterday and the wind moved round towards the north so it felt cooler. A clear night and cooler again this morning, glass has risen slightly towards 29.6". Sky clear at the moment and the sun is shining.

Don't get too excited Kids! Dry at the moment and what wind there is is from the west so I reckon we will see an occasional shower. Glass has fallen back to 29.3" which reinforces this.

Been raining here this morning but it was glorious in Southport yesterday. Mad busy though as we hadn't realised it was the Orange Day Parade. Eileen

Not a bad day in Barlick and a bright sunny start to the day this morning. Glass has risen slightly to 29.4". Another reasonable day in prospect but not warm and not summer!

It will be cool Eileen. Wind is roughly NW and glass is dodging around 29.5". Clear and bright sun at the moment....
By the way, today is St Swithin's Day. (

Not a bad day so with luck St Swithin's won't kick in! Glass risen slightly to 29.7". Dry night and overcast at the moment. Five day farming forecast gives showers till Thursday and then the jet stream shifts northwards and we have a chance of a big high pressure coming in from the Atlantic. Reasons to be cheerful?

Dull and damp but not raining. Glass has risen to 29.9". Slow improvement?

Reasonable day yesterday till evening and night rain. Glass fallen back to just above 29.5". Heavy overcast and light rain at the moment. However, the forecasters are quite certain that the jet stream is going to move north and we shall have a change to better weather in a few days. I hope so!

Later... forget what I said about light rain! It's wet, windy and 'orrible! Jack has been towelled down and my trouser legs are drying out slowly. July holiday weather!

We "may" get a bit of summer next week, but not too sure at the moment. Could be a close thing though with the north cloudy with some rain, the south sunny and warm. Let's wait and see.

Stair rod rain here in Barlick when we got up 30 minutes ago, Jack refused to go out, first time ever! It's stopped now and he's been for his early morning pee. Glass is nailed on 29.5" so no change at the moment. They promise us rising pressure tomorrow..... I'll believe reports of sunshine when I see it!

The rain has stopped and the wind has dropped so the midges have come out in force! My pony with sweet itch was desperate to come in so the other one had to be brought in as well, the randy duck was chasing hens through the mud and the pony trod on my foot by way of thanks for rescuing it. Lovely morning.

We had another mixed day yesterday after very heavy rain overnight. Butts Beck was thundering over the cill at the weir in the morning but by dinnertime had reduced by at least half, still a good flow for the time of year.

Glass creeping up, 29.7" this morning and the forecasters promise us sun tomorrow. Damp and overcast at the moment with hardly any wind but what there is seems to be coming out of the East.
