I think you've been to Edinburgh David...tis the Scott Monument. Did you go for a tram ride by any chance?

If anyone saw the large scratch on my arm they would know I had been gardening and doing battle with an overgrown rose. Ouch!

Wendy and Ian are spot on. (I should have used this more enigmatic picture...)

France for 3 weeks. Marvellous. Weather really behaved itself, only had one bad day, the drive down. Nice cottage in Brittany and then two fine city breaks in Tours and Rouen (really impressed with the latter). Over-indulged as I always do in France: the habit of stopping for a decent meal at lunctime is to be recommended, but not perhaps the same again in the evening all washed down with a half litre of red. That said, we ate very well and the while France is perhaps not what it was when I first started visting over 30 years ago, the death of the neighbourhood 'bistro' is exaggerated - good, fresh 3-course meals still to be had for 10/12 quid depending what the market's coughed up that day.

Zakynthos for a week, just back into Manchester tonight. On the day we arrived last Thursday teatime, after unpacking and grabbing a quick shower we headed into Alikes for our first evening meal of the holiday. We had eaten breakfast at the airport before setting off but with the flight duration, transfer and the two hour time difference we were ready for a decent feed by the time we arrived. It's about a half mile walk into town from where we stay. We had just got to our restaurant of choice when it started to thunder then the heavens opened up to some effect along with some pretty spectacular lightning, it rained solid for the best part of and hour and a half and the roads through town were all at least 6" to 9" deep in water. Greek drainage is not the best in the world by any means and we did have visions of shedding sandals and paddling back to our digs. Greek hospitality to the rescue though. Realising the dilemma of all his customers the restaurant owner phoned his dad who promptly arrived in the family car and ferried all the customers to their respective hotels, apartments or bars of choice, one car load at a time when they had finished their meals. Rain bated after a couple of hours although the thunder and lightning carried on rolling around Kefalonia and Zakynthos until the early hours. Following morning and every other day was, as they would say on the Fast Show "Scorchio" - 29 -30 degrees, with a nice late summer breeze, temperature 23 -25 in the evenings, just right.

The Footman James Classic Car Show at Eventcity Manchester yesterday. A really good day out, arrived at 10-30am and found it easy to look around, had got a lot busier after lunch.
A must do for any petrol heads.

We went to Zakynthos a few years ago and had a similar storm.
Just been to the Eden Arms Hotel at Rushyford just outside Durham. It is a Shearing's hotel but we did not go on the coach but by car, the food is very good and it was nice to have meals made & no washing up! We visited Locomotion which is a NR museum in Shildon - well worth a visit.

Nice trip Moh.... How these pensioners do gallivant! Got news about an old friend of mine yesterday. He's 89 and was complaining because he has to go on a speed awareness course after being nicked for doing 53mph on a slip road in Bradford in his Roller. He was on a trip to the National Film Museum.

Just been to "Facebook" for several days, maybe it was longer. Sorry, but couldn't think of anywhere else only Nelson town centre, which is rather boring. Its a bit like One Guy From Barlick on the old socialising networking thingy Facebook these days. Anyway have come back to here for a breather as they say  :laugh5:

You missed our excitement, 36 hours off line...
Gloria, quite! Joe is a very strong man in character as well as physically. He used to be the Milnrow Blacksmith... Long time chair of the Milnrow Lit and Sci as well...

36 hours off line - wow that takes the biscuilt. I have known websites to be off for 6-12 hours, but never so long. Maybe compensation comes to mind ? :surprised:

....more like where I'm just going, but up to Barlick this weekend to see the mother. Going to pop over to Haworth tomorrow - the wife's never been. What's a good pub for a pint on the way back, as it's a long time since I've been over that way?

Mother's raving about the new 'Polish' shop so being partial to a pickle and a smoked sausage I'll stock up there.

We'll have Sunday lunch out, and I've a place in mind....

Had to go to Burnley to do a bit of a garden tidy up, so we decided to have lunch at the Old Rock Cafe in Trawden. Then we went to Salterforth, parked at the Anchor Inn and walked the tow path as far as the Rolls Royce factory. We would have done more but it kept threatening to rain. It was lovely in Rochdale when we left and still is now we are home. We are having friends round for a meal tonight so I gave an apple pie to make.

Rome, since last Sunday for Sally's birthday surprise, just got back late this afternoon in to rainy Leeds/Bradford. Bit of a shock, 29 degrees when we left Roma 3 hours earlier. Managed to keep the birthday surprise right up until we got to the airport on Sunday. I let Sally scan the monitors and guess before the reveal. Fantastic short break and the restaurant in the Opera district of Rome we visited on Sally's birthday on Tuesday produced a free dessert with a candle in the middle and a short rendition of Happy Birthday from our table waiter. Lots of good memories. Sally's the same age as me now, but only for a short while as she will always remind you.

Oh you old romantic, Panbiker. Gold star...hope Sally enjoyed her treat.

And you needed to get back out in that shed, Stanley. Face it...you had been neglecting your pastime.
