Heat and lightning during the night but heard no thunder. Slept like a log for six hours. Really heavy rain this morning.

I didn't get chance to count, it was just continuous thunder and lightning except right at the end as the storm moved away.

Drove to some shops this morning, came home for lunch, went out to the car this afternoon - flat tyre on rear offside with a phillips screw head visible. Arrrgh. Thank goodness I'm one of those who can still change a tyre. The spare is a temporary `skinny' so I'll be off to have a new tyre tomorrow.

Never heard a thing Ian. There could be more tonight according to the Met Office.
How quickly time flies. We are almost at the end of July.......
A short while later. Everything is running very slowly this morning. It might be just the site but I have shut down and rebooted to see if that makes a difference. Not used to slow!

The steamer pan lid just fell on my head as I was lifting the pan onto a shelf..... Something is definitely afoot, in fact I probably misjudged the height to the shelf because I am barefoot and enjoying walking on the cold kitchen tiles.

Well that's certainly an image I can safely imagine - in contrast to those of members' current sleeping arrangements in this 'heatwave'.

PS - I clocked 35C in the car yesterday. One degree below my Personal Best this time last year. It's no good the vest is going to have to come off.

Nice day beside the river Wharfe at Burnsall today. Grandchildren enjoyed it in the river and it was handy for sticking your feet in when it got a bit warm. We took our dinner and had a picnic and ice creams from the Dalesway Creamery, (Embsay) van that was on the field. :biggrin2:

Nice bit of summer diversification from the farmer as well. One large field with the river Wharfe bending twice through it. Pebble and some sand margins down to the water, summer level around knee deep over pebble rapids. Nicely kept toilet block installed on the slope down to the river. £6.00 parking for the day. I reckon 500 - 800 cars when the sun shines, I make that £3 - 4K per day. Nice little earner. :extrawink:

Call me antisocial, but I would not enjoy spending my day with that many people, nor paying £6 for the privilege! Give me a quiet bend on the river with no one in sight.

Drive through to Nelson. Acres of white wobbly flesh starting to turn pinkish red. Not a pretty sight. The Asian community have the right idea and keep themselves covered up.
The multi story car park in Nelson centre now demolished. Must get out more.

Went to buy some sandals today. A bit premature, as Spring has not sprung yet.
My first time buying any shoes since the op for my herniated disc. I've been wearing flat soles with comfort inner soles since then. My gait has still not returned to normal ( unfortunately it is regarded now as permanent nerve damage...bum!)
I now have feet that are a half a size difference! No one sells shoes half a size difference, so the affected foot has to slop about in its shoe ( and that is the foot that no longer has the grip it needs to hangon to a shoe. )My good foot cannot tolerate a size smaller. A very odd situation.
I'm a bit cross about it. Just have to suck it up and accept it. The first few pairs I tried on, I blamed the shoes ( then...shock...horror...I realised it was not the shoes)

I'm all for limiting speed to increase road safety but I hope the people designing this type of technology will remember that if you mix cars that have the technology with those that don't there will be trouble. Even now when my Golf's cruise control suddenly slows the car there's the danger of a car behind running into me. Human reaction times are slower than computer reaction times!

Being a dinosaur and control freak I hate all 'systems' that override the driver's inputs. Look at the 737 Max and see where that can take you! You can only go on your own experience and I have been driven in cars with modern speed limiting systems where suddenly the vehicle deprives you of power and it seemed a source of danger to me. I'm glad I never needed to deal with this. My head may be slower but it is a better analytical machine than any computer which is limited by the imagination and experience of the software engineer who designed the algorithms. It's my safety that is at stake and I want control please.
On an entirely different matter, during the process of re-framing my Craven Bank Notes yesterday I took the opportunity of doing a new image of them.

Demolition of the cooling towers at Ferrybridge begins today with the 'blowing down' of one tower. They were part of my landscape for many years.
